It may be quite some time before there’s a royal crown atop Kate Middleton’s head, but the commoner turned Princess is already living like she’s a Queen and Queen Elizabeth herself is outraged. Queen Elizabeth II is a notorious skinflint and, according to Life & Style magazine, finds Duchess Kate’s spending habits “vulgar” and “frivolous” and QEII is determined to put a stop to it.
But it’s not just Kate Middleton that’s got her hand out for the big bucks – Prince William is also all about the big bucks. Despite his modest $62k a year earnings as a helicopter pilot, in his off time, Wills wants his family to travel by private jet because he thinks that first class accommodations are not good enough for he and his brood.
The duo have made headlines a number of times since their wedding over their wasteful spending and Queen Elizabeth is not pleased since the monarchy depends on taxpayer money to keep their lavish lifestyles afloat. Last year, Kate Middleton earned the moniker “Two Kitchens Kate” when she redid their apartment with public funds and insisted on two kitchens being installed.
Last summer, a Mirror headline touted “William and Kate aren’t humble – they’re a pair of spoiled kids wasting YOUR money” and that sent Queen Elizabeth into a fit but that hasn’t slowed the spending of Kate Middleton or Prince William. They spent $2.5 million refitting their country home plus another $1 million on furniture and fittings plus a whopping $400k a year to keep the place up.
In total, Kate Middleton and Prince William have blown over $6 million redoing various homes and apartments while billing themselves as a down to earth couple in touch with the common folk of the UK. While it’s true Kate is technically a commoner, she’s a child of great wealth herself. Her parents are quite wealthy and she grew up with a very posh lifestyle and private school education which is how The Duchess of Cambridge and her mother, Carole Middleton, sought and snagged Prince William.
Last year alone, the cost of putting clothes on the back of Prince William, Kate Middleton and little Prince George, plus nannies, staff, and travel costs was a whopping $4.6 million. That doesn’t include the cost of the upkeep of their many homes. That’s just the cost of them showing up not naked with their hair and teeth brushed. Wow.
What’s hilarious is that Prince William’s $62,000 pilot salary is donated to charity. Yep. That’s mighty big of them. How about just not spending a few million of the UK taxpayers’ money and keeping that $62k in their checking account? And here is what’s really funny. In a poorly plotted countermeasure to criticism about their prodigious spending habits, Wills has been brown bagging his lunch to work.
But wait, there’s more. The air ambulance service where he works then posted an appeal on Twitter and Facebook saying their fridge broke and needs replacing. So poor Prince William can’t keep his cheese sandwich cold at work – and then the place he works had the audacity to ask the people to chip in for one. Couldn’t Wills haul in the spare from one of the two kitchens at their London pad?

For now, Prince William and Kate Middleton show no signs of slowing their spending. It will be interesting to watch the fate of Kate as the British public seems to be growing more disenchanted with their Duchess who has no problem taking from the public coffers but seems to do very little giving in return.
