Kate Middleton’s sheer braless dress wasn’t just a fashion statement, it was a message to the royal family that said the Duchess of Cambridge is not afraid of Queen Elizabeth. Every detail of Princess Kate’s life is controlled and her choices are more like moves in a game.
With the royal family, anyone who wants to succeed must be able to play that game. Kate’s dress choice at the premiere of ‘Spectre’ was a clear message to everyone – Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, Camilla Parker-Bowles, and even Prince William. Kate Middleton will not be backing down.
There are many parallels between Kate Middleton and Princess Diana. In fact, Kate loves to evoke the air of Princess Diana when it suits her. However, the Duchess of Cambridge is smarter in the sense she knows how to fight against the royal’s tactics.
Where Diana went into her marriage to Prince Charles as blushing and innocent bride, Kate hunted Prince William and fought for her position. The Duchess also has something Diana didn’t – a supportive and equally cunning family including Carole Middleton.
Princess Diana was effectively isolated and only had her children, Prince William and Prince Harry, to lean on. The burden of Diana’s troubles were often laid on a very Prince William’s shoulders simply because she had no one else to turn to. The royal family may have attempted to pull the same tactic on Kate, effectively banning Carole Middleton from the royal couple’s life, but Kate is clearly not afraid.
The 4-month long maternity leave was obviously a huge sign of the Duchess having problems and fighting with the royal family, but after being summoned to Balmoral for Queen Elizabeth to intervene,
Kate Middleton sprang back in the public eye. Kate has been almost over-the-top about her return; smiling at every event like simply being there is almost orgasmic. Clearly, the Duchess is playing the game while Prince William maintains his usual demeanor.
Kate Middleton’s pale blue full-length gown by Jenny Packham may have caused some to scoff at how matronly she looked, but for a Princess to wear a sheer, backless dress with a moderate V-neck is damn near shocking in the royal world.
Especially after Queen Elizabeth infamously ordered the hems on her skirts and dresses lowered after Kate and Prince William were engaged. The Duchess’ real power move was in her choice to go braless. This gown may have come off as matronly to the average Joe, but in the royal world, a sheer, backless, and braless dress is like wearing lingerie down the red carpet.
This isn’t the first time Princess Kate has obviously defied the Queen’s control in her life. The Duchess of Cambridge flashed her inner thigh while visiting the Anna Freud Centre back in September. The belted Ralph Lauren shirtdress skimmed her upper thigh as she walked, nearly giving the public at her panties.
Kate Middleton’s outfits have begun to shy away from the Queen’s demands. It may seem like non-issue, but when your every move is watched and critiqued – it’s a big deal to go braless at a public event. Kate is becoming increasingly daring…and not just with her fashion choices.
