At recent charitable events Prince Harry and Prince William appear to be advocating for Queen Elizabeth to reinstate the Her Royal Highness title for their deceased mother Princess Diana. If this is the case Queen Elizabeth’s grandsons may find themselves in hot water because she has grown weary of constantly hearing Diana’s name 18 years after her tragic death.
What’s going on? Both Harry and Wills have used recent appearances to keep the memory of their mother from fading away – and Prince William is determined to keep the promise he made to his mother when her divorce from Prince Charles was final.
Back up to 1996 when Queen Elizabeth stripped Diana of Her Royal Highness title as part of the Wales divorce settlement. At the time Wills told his mum that one day he – when he became king – he would give it back to her. But at the rate things are going with the line of succession it could be a few decades before the Duke of Cambridge is able to make good on that promise..
Now – how does that add up to the Wales Brothers pushing Queen Elizabeth to reinstate Diana’s HRH? When Prince Harry joined the Walking with the Wounded for 17 miles of their 1,000 mile walk around Britain he said Diana was the inspiration – and he intends to follow in her footsteps making visits behind the scenes with charities. Shot number one from Harry!
On Thursday, October 15 the Duke of Cambridge gave a speech at the 21st anniversary celebration for Child Bereavement UK. Wills spoke at length about Diana – who attended the launch of the charity 20 years ago. Prince William let the attendees know just how much of an affect Princess Diana’s commitment to charity work had on him.
Was this a clear message to Queen Elizabeth’s that it is time to reinstate Diana’s HRH – if not only to help her grandsons heal but also for the history of the monarchy?
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge appeased Queen Elizabeth by putting her name before Diana’s when naming their little princess – but now Wills and Harry want something back from Queen Elizabeth. They want their mother’s rightful title restored. And this does makes for a cranky granny.
Queen Elizabeth is reportedly infuriated by the constant demands from the young royals. Who will win this battle and is it possible that Princess Diana will posthumously be given back the Her Royal Highness title?
