Switched At Birth returns to ABC Family tonight with an all new Monday August 24, season 4 episode 11 called “To Repel Ghosts,” and we have your weekly recap below. On tonight’s episode, Bay (Vanessa Marano) is left heartbroken by her breakup with Emmett. (Sean Berdy) Meanwhile, John (D.W. Moffett0 and Kathryn (Lea Thompson) get bad financial news.
On the last episode intent on making their relationship work, Bay surprised Emmett with a visit to Los Angeles while he’s shooting his first big class project. Daphne was distraught with her performance in school and the idea of letting Bay and her family down. Kathryn and Toby got the chance to have their musical produced. Tonight’s episode of Switched at Birth kicks off with Bailey having a bad dream – in her dream she is standing outside of a gas station and Emmett arrives, and then so does four more Emmetts. All of them tell Bailey that they don’t love her and she freaks out.
Meanwhile at the dorm, Daphne wakes up in her boyfriends room. They joke and flirt before she get ready to go to class. When she leaves she bumps in to her friend Travis in the hallway – he criticizes Daphne for her new boyfriend and jokes that he is “majoring in PE” and informs her that it will never last between her and the Prom King.
Kathryn finds Bailey crying in bed, she says that she isn’t going to get out of bed all day. She tries to comfort Bay and tells her that she just needs to push Emmett out of her head – and she won’t be able to do that until she gets up out of bed. Bailey crawls out of bed and then has a vision of Emmett standing in her bathroom brushing his teeth – she grumbles and get back in to bed.
Regina is at the café helping her boyfriend’s son with his homework. She is shocked when he reveals that his mom is actually still alive, she goes by the name of Hope Paxton and is working in Atlanta. He hasn’t emailed her yet because he is nervous and doesn’t know what to say to his mom.
Daphne video chats with Bailey and invites her to a college party to help her get over Emmett. Then she gets a call from Emmett – she snaps at him about how badly he hurt Bailey and informs him that she is standing by Bailey on this one. Daphne stops by the bathroom on her way to class and finds Lily crying, she reveals that Toby dumped her and now she is pregnant – she doesn’t know anyone and her parents live in another country, she is freaking out. Lily begs Daphne not to tell anyone about the baby.
Bailey heads to the party later that night, she runs in to Travis and they discuss their break-ups. A cute guy approaches Bailey and asks her to dance with him, she turns him down but Travis convinces her that she needs to let loose and have a little fun. Bailey is hesitant – but she goes off with the guy.
Regina heads home and begins googling Hope Paxton, and looking for a marriage record – she finds a missing person report on Marcus and Keon. Apparently he is wanted for kidnapping his son, and his son’s mother is still very much alive and wants her kid back. Regina is in total shock by what she saw on the internet.
Daphne arrives at the party with her boyfriend, she is feeling self-concious because all of her non-hearing friends seem to hate him and keep reminding her that he played her in the past. They sit down at a table and he asks Daphne why Travis and Iris don’t like him. Meanwhile, Bailey has a meltdown after she kisses the random guy that she was dancing with. She runs out of the party crying and Travis chases after her and comforts her.
Regina heads to the café – she informs her boyfriend that she knows that he is Marcus Paxton and his son isn’t Will – his name is Keon. She tells him he has one minute to explain himself before she calls 911 and tells the cops who he is. He explains that he was troubled when he was younger and he was in a gang and had a rap sheet. Marcus cleaned his life up when his son was born – his mother was a drug addict. He tried to get custody but the court didn’t believe that she was on drugs. Keon was in danger and his mom’s boyfriend was abusive, he grabbed Keon one day when he found his mom passed out with a needle in the arm – and they walked away from their whole life and made up new names.
Regina tries to point out that he is making a huge mistake and he can’t keep running – besides Keon’s mom might have turned her life around too now and she has a right to know her son is safe. He begs Regina not to call the police, she agrees to take a night to think about what she is going to do. He shouts that he is sorry and Regina storms out.
Bailey shows up on Emmett’s mom’s doorstep with a box of stuff. She is a train wreck, they sit down and Bailey begins begging her to tell her if Emmett is dating Skye and how long they have been together. Bailey rants that Emmett abandoned her after the thing with Tank. Emmett’s mom tries to point out that things were bad with her and Emmett before the whole Tank thing happened. Bailey snaps and shouts at Emmett’s mom that she hates him and wishes she never met him.
Toby is DJ’ing at the party – he takes a break and Daphne chases after him. She begs Toby to give Lily another chance and talk to her, she points out that they are still in love with each other. Toby doesn’t want to hear it – he says that Lily made her choice and he refuses to be her sloppy seconds. Daphne is obviously frustrated, but she keeps Lily’s secret about the baby.
Bailey heads outside to get in her car, and she has another vision of herself fighting with Emmett. She starts sobbing about going back in time and changing what happened between her and Emmett. The imaginary Bailey in her flashback reminds her that she and Emmett were drifting apart long before the Tank thing happened – she needs to stop tormenting herself, it is time to move on.
Regina pays Marcus a visit – she tells him that she is going to keep her secret. After a chat with Kathryn she realizes that she did the same thing and kept Daphne from her mother, all because she was trying to protect her. Just like Marcus was trying to protect his son.
The next morning Kathryn heads to Bailey’s room to check in on her – she has actually gotten out of bed and is dressed and cleaning her closet. She invites her mom to go for a walk with her and enjoy some of the fresh air.
Daphne heads to Lily’s room to check in on her – she reassures Lily that Toby still loves her. Lily is upset, she sits down, she explains to Daphne that she went to the doctor and got tested – her baby is going to have down syndrome.
