New General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that ABC is shopping for a Morgan Corinthos recast now that Bryan Craig has quit GH. A recent casting notice issued by the show aligns perfectly to Morgan’s character and the recast looks to take place right as Fall sweeps hit their high point.
The casting notice says that General Hospital is seeking a “20 to 25 year old Caucasian male” that is “brooding and intense” and “complicated and troubled.” The description says also, “Underneath his edge he is a soulful young man trying to figure things out.”
That sounds like the character of Morgan Corinthos, right? The role is to begin taping at the end of October which means a late November or early December start. Bryan Craig’s reported final air date is also expected to be in November.
With Morgan’s character enmeshed in a major storyline, it hits hard that Bryan Craig quit. But GH showrunners seem to have learned a lesson with Tyler Christopher’s exit. TPTB at GH abruptly and awkwardly suspended the Cassadine Island storyline based on issues with the actor.
The hasty recast with Nick Stabile flopped and disaster ensued leaving many fans unsatisfied. It seems that GH won’t let the same thing happen with Morgan’s character. Morgan begins to spiral worse in coming days and we’ll see him brawling with Joe Rivera (Jeffrey Parise).
The whole Corinthos clan becomes alarmed as he heads down a dark bipolar path. With the Ava Jerome (Maura West) medication swapping story taking hold now and increasing in coming weeks, it’s a tough time to lose Bryan Craig, so this recast makes perfect sense.
Some General Hospital spoilers tease that Morgan will be hospitalized, likely back at the mental facility, in coming weeks so that’s a good time to trigger the actor swap with the recast portrayer. Don’t look for a plastic surgery plot – it should be a simple announcement of the replacement.
For those hoping that the show would try and convince Bryan Craig to stay in the role, think again. His abrupt resignation triggered the recast and, no doubt, GH will find someone talented to step into the role and pick up with Morgan’s tragic storyline.
There’s lots of plot left to play. Morgan will bottom out due to the medication swap, Ava still has to pay, Kiki Jerome (Hayley Erin) will withdraw from Morgan and turn to Dillon Quartermaine (Robert Watkins) which will fuel Morgan’s angst even further.
Morgan has never taken well to being forced into treatment while in a bipolar spin, so we should have the chance to see this new actor at a pivotal low point for the character. The recast actor will step right into challenging scenes that will be demanding.
This will give the recast actor a chance to prove themselves right away to GH fans (or completely turn them off). We’ll see how it goes. It all comes down to actor choice. Let’s hope TPTB at General Hospital pick a good one.
