‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Paul Hornsby Should NOT Be The GH Serial Killer - 7 Reasons That Prove Writers Messed Up

New General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that although it sure looked like Paul Hornsby (Richard Burgi) was revealed as the GH serial killer this week, things may not be as they seem. In fact, if GH showrunners have decided Hornsby is the killer, they have contradicted themselves in many ways.

GH promised the reveal would be a “shocker” and if they were going for a shock that the reveal didn’t match the evidence, then they got it. Here’s a look at seven reasons why Paul Hornsby should NOT be the killer and, if he is, why the writers have engineered a massive fail on this long-running plot.

#1 Right Handed Killer  – Ambidextrous Suspect?

We saw on the Monday, August 29 episode of GH that Paul seems to be left-handed yet the angel of death at GH seems to be right-handed. We’ve also seen Paul doing stuff right-handed here and there. Are we supposed to buy that not only is Paul a serial killer, but he’s an ambidextrous serial killer? Utterly ridiculous.

#2 Alibi for Lucas Jones Attempted Murder

Paul was seen prominently at the Nurse’s Ball the night that the serial killer came for Bobbie Spencer (Jacklyn Zeman) and ended up attacking Lucas Jones (Ryan Carnes). We saw Paul bickering with Ava Jerome (Maura West) over their sex tape so unless he’s also an evil twin, this is dodgy as well.

#3 Paul Has No Access to Derisofol

The assumption has been made, for very good reason, that the GH killer is a GH staffer. Given that the kills have been made with Derisofol and Paul shouldn’t have easy access to the drug, that’s another unlikelihood. A doctor, nurse or orderly makes much more sense unless Paul is somehow getting drugs elsewhere.

#4 Paul Has No Discernable Motive

If you read back through Paul’s character history, there is nothing there to indicate a motive to be a serial killer. He had some interaction with a cartel, some with ELQ, and his daughter was poisoned a long time ago by Cesar Faison but was cured. Nothing adds up to a grudge against GH or its patients.

#5 Paul Could Not Walk Unnoticed Around GH

Port Charles’ District Attorney could not walk around the halls and in and out of patient rooms at the hospital without someone taking notice. Paul is only occasionally at GH like when Tracy was sick, Carlos was brought in dying, and when he came to threaten Sonny. It’s another mismatch.

#6 Paul’s Cufflink Could Have Been Planted

Paul’s cufflink is a big clue, but could easily have been planted. Plus, why would it have been in Hamilton Finn’s (Michael Easton) lab unless the real killer knew it would have been spotted there? It seems like too obvious of a piece of evidence to have been dropped then recovered.

#7 It’s a Stretch That Paul Is Both a Killer and a Serial Killer

GH writers have  missed the mark with  Paul. He’s a gunrunner, then he’s undercover. He shot Sonny, that was forgotten, and then he killed Sloane for raping his daughter. All of a sudden, he’s also a serial killer? Killer, yes. Serial killer also? Hmm… Very inconsistent and highly improbable.

Could there be two killers?

Given the right handed/left handed issue, alibis, etc. it seems like the only way to justify Paul as the serial killer is if there is not one killer, but a pair of killers working together to throw off the cops. But that’s even more ludicrous than an ambidextrous, district attorney, murderous, undercover gunrunner turned serial killer.

If Paul is the serial killer, GH has officially jumped the shark almost as bad as when they introduced Casey the Alien. Also, the whole issue with Liz Webber (Rebecca Herbst) being pushed down the stairs is strange as well. The stair-shover had on two gloves, Paul was wearing just one.

And as for why he had a syringe in his hand, perhaps he found it and had on a glove to pick it up since it was evidence of a potential crime. The whole serial killer story is a hot mess because the writers didn’t know who the killer was when they started the plot. They admitted that recently.

A sloppy storyline from the start

By not knowing who the killer was, that means that any number of suspects may have had alibis along the way because it was a sloppy plot to start with – and that’s a cheat to loyal GH fans. Did the writers spin a wheel and it landed on Paul? Is that what’s happening? Nothing aligns in this serial killer story.

The big mystery is whether GH showrunners have killed off fan interest in the show by dragging this story out for months, promising a shocking reveal, then delivering something that makes no sense. What will be truly shocking is if they can explain themselves and offer a perpetrator that fits the crimes and evidence.

In a brand new interview with Soap Opera Digest, Paul portrayer Richard Burgi admitting he’s the killer  and said, “I have no idea where this is going…” and admitted it was very inconsistent and that he’s only been told recently he’s the killer. Perhaps his contract is up… Perhaps the dart in the writer’s room landed on his photo…
