#H50 starts with Aunt Deb saying goodbye to her dear husband – the one she married not too long ago. Steve stands watching her as she sends his ashes out to sea. He holds her as they watch the boat rows out into the sea.

Later, others are out boating and paddle boarding. A leader teaches the boys a sacred chant. Some roll their eyes. They row to shore and pull in the boats. The boys gather and the leader takes their electronic devices away.

He says they are going back to the old days for the next couple of days. He gives them each a pahi with a sharp blade and says go find a koa tree and cut a fresh branch. He shows them the spear they need to carve.

One kid wants to know when they get their phones back. He says they have two hours to gather the branch but they complain they can’t know what time it is. The kids head into the jungle. The adult leaders are constructing a shelter and starting a fire.

They hear gunshots and we see the leader rowing a gunshot kid to a nearby island begging for help. Paramedics rush down to the beach and the man says don’t let my son die. Chin wakes to a messy hotel room and Abby wakes on the sofa.

They talk about all the mai tais and how they got there. She says he insisted on walking her to the door then he kisses her. They stumble inside. Chin says the rum clouded her memory and says he remembers her insisting that he come to her door then her dragging him inside.

Abby says that’s not what happened. He says they can check the security footage. She says you go do that while I take a shower. Then she drops the sheet and says he can join her. His phone rings and he says no…

He has to go to work and says he’ll pick Abby up on the way. Kono says the dad found his son lying gunshot but no sign of the shooter. Lou says the nurse at the hospital says the boy also took a big fall.

Kono spots a tree that he needed and they see a path that was cut. Lou and Kono head that way. Kono and Lou decided that Chin and Abby definitely hooked up. Lou spots footprints up high on the hill. Kono spots blood drops and says this is the crime scene.

Lou spots tire tracks and a second set of footprints. He looks around and pulls back some vines. There’s a door and some drag marks. She pulls her gun and they open the door. Inside is a concrete tunnel. Kono says it’s a WWII munitions bunker.

They see a Japanese bunker. She says some Japanese supporters went underground after the war and may have hidden out. They spot a glimmer and Kono scrapes away sand. She finds a skeletonized hand with a distinctive ring on the finger.

Max checks the remains and says it’s an adult male and are as old as the crypt. He says there’s a bullet found among the bones and Kono and Lou look at the slug. They wonder if the killer was covering up a 75 year old murder.

Eric calls them outside to tell them what he found out about the tire treads. He says the vehicle left much heavier than when it arrived. They wonder what else was in the bunker. Steve is with his Aunt Deb.

She says she wants to drive his pickup truck. She talks about her and Leonard’s bucket list. She shows Steve and Mary Ann her new tattoo. Steve lets Deb drive the truck and she speeds and has the lights on. Joan chants puke, puke, puke when he looks nauseous.

Deb cackles gleefully as she speeds along. Back at the office, Steve comes in looking rough. Chin says ballistics came in – the kid was shot with a Japanese military pistol that’s obsolete. Eric shows him the ring from the skeleton – it had cyanide in a secret compartment.

Abby says they think the body in the bunker might be a Japanese spy. Eric says there is paper made from a bush that’s Japanese and says it’s all old and all from Japan. Their phone all chirp with a Jerry alert.

They go see him in the basement. Chin, Abby and Steve come in and he complains about the darkness in his cubicle downstairs. He says prepare to have your minds blown. He says in 1944, the Japanese started Operation Fugo where they sent bombs via balloons made of paper.

The components that Eric found are all from one of the balloons. It came with a large bomb but the plan failed terribly. Jerry says he found classified intel that the Japanese government was working a Fugo plan here to coincide with Pearl Harbor.

The bunker may have been full of bombs – a ton of them – Steve says they would be unstable and could kill many people. That’s why the kid was shot. In Chinatown, Deb meets with Nicky for lunch. He says he needs a singing partner but she says that ship has sailed.

He says don’t be scared and Deb says there won’t be a next time. He asks how long she has and she says not long. She says she made peace with it. He asks if she told Steve and Mary and she says she won’t because they’ll be devastated.

Nicky asks what he can do and Deb says after she’s gone, Steve needs someone to offer wisdom. He says he’ll be there for him. She thanks him. At five-o, Eric calls Chin with a make and model on the track.

They find that the remains in the bunker were Hiroda – a Japanese soldier who was listed as killed in action in China in 1940. Steve says that’s classic spy stuff. Chin says it wasn’t a one man operation.

They think the person who stole the bombs also had a connection. Steve says he’ll get Hiroda’s spy name. Kono and Steve head out. Kono says the kid is recovering and may be able to answer questions in a few hours.

Steve asks about Adam and she says the other inmates are giving him space. She says his dad’s name seems to inspire fear. Steve says to let him know if they need anything. Steve spots a guy – the man leaves him a film and flash drive in the trash.

They find his name was Saburo Mori and he came as a sugar cane working immigrant. It looks like he went off the grid. He has Fugo names and agents from his contact. It’s microfilm and Lou says he hasn’t seen that since grade school.

They need a projector. Jerry goes to see a librarian who hassles him. He says a British terrorist stole the library books from his basement. She says $63.49 in late fees are owed. He says he’s short on cash.

He says he didn’t want to do this. He says there is a catastrophe thanks to Japanese bombs and a terror attack is coming. She gives him the projector. Chin says they have a lead on the van. Steve says let it go. He says pursuit could trigger a detonation.

Chin radios and says have the units stand down. The cops evacuate the neighborhood near where the van was spotted. Steve shows up and Chin says the driver ditched the van and took off on foot and they only know he’s mid 20s to late 40s and the van was stolen.

The bomb squad shows up to check it out. They open up the van and find wooden crates with Japanese writing on it. They drill into one of the bombs and inject some fluid into the bombs. Now the cops go to check out the van once the bombs are gone.

They find old maps and Abby spots more of the spy’s remains plus the Japanese gun. Jerry says the Navy has some intel on the spy and says his handler’s name was Jiro Takaki. Jerry shows them an interrogation of Jiro asking about Mori.

He says he helps with money only and says there supposed to meet but Mori didn’t show for the meeting. He says no one else is involved. Jerry says the guy is lying and Yuri Musaka was the third guy from the Japanese navy.

Jerry says Jiro was sent back to Japan and died of cancer two years later. Musaka is unknown. Jerry agrees to keep digging. Deb takes Mary and Joan out shopping. Deb crosses epic shopping spree off her bucket list.

Mary says she’ll get the car and Deb says take your time. She say she has something to do first. Deb goes into the bank and says she needs to talk to someone about an asset transfer. Chin comes to see Eric who tells him he got a new print on the old pistol.

He says he found different prints on the bullets that are much older. He says he got a hit on Musaka. His name is Tamuro and his prints are in the system because he was in an internment camp.

Tamuro stayed after the war ended and he died three days ago at the age of 100. They went to clean up the ling to Musaka and the spy ring. Abby says Musaka has a grandson that lives on the island. Kyle Tamuro is his name.

Chin pings his phone and says the guy is in the building. They go downstairs and Kyle says this was all a mistake. He says he went to clear out the bunker and heard a noise and says he fired when he saw someone with a knife. He says he panicked.

They ask why he didn’t leave the bunker alone and he says that the area was going to be developed. He says his grandfather tried to get Hiroda to abandon the operation and then they got into a fight and his grandfather shot in self-defense.

He says his grandfather didn’t want to shame the family. Kyle asks about the boy he shot and says tell his parents I’m very sorry. Steve tells Jerry they closed the case but sees he’s still going through the old files for fun.

Steve says good job then goes to leave. Jerry says Musaka was under surveillance even after the war. Steve says the woman is the reason he changed his mind. Steve says his love for her outweighed his loyalty to Japan’s plan.

At Steve’s place, he bosses Mary around about her pancake cooking. She says go way up Aunt Deb for breakfast and quit bossing her around. Steve goes upstairs and knocks on the door. Deb doesn’t answer.

He goes inside and sees she’s still in bed. He goes over to her and she’s awake. He kneels down and she nods back off. He touches her hand. He realizes she’s gone. He touches her hand and sees her list.

He opens it up and sees that everything was checked off except climb a really tall mountain. He says okay Deb. Later, he and Mary take Joan on a hike up a mountain.  They look down on the ocean below and he pulls out the urn of Deb’s ashes.

THE END!
