Scandal spoilers for Season 5 Finale Episode 21 “That’s My Girl” indicate that now that the two candidates have been decided, it’s time to choose running mates and get down to the business of Democrat vs Republican campaigning. But don’t count Papa Rowan out yet…
Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) is unhappy with Fitz Grant (Tony Goldwyn) – is this because he’s still dragging his feet on showing her support even though his candidate Susan Ross (Artemis Pebdani) is out of the race?
Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry) gets an unwelcome visit from Rowan Pope (Joe Morton) and it looks like he’s got dirt on Cyrus. But let’s be real, that could be anything. Cyrus’ history is as dirty as it gets, so we wonder what Papa Rowan has dredged up now.
Did Rowan discover that Cyrus rigged the shooting to make Frankie Vargas (Ricardo Chavira) look like a hero? Cyrus turns to Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) who demands that Cyrus tell her what her father has on him. Olivia knows most of Cyrus’ dirty laundry so is this something new?
Olivia also needs to address Jake Ballard’s (Scott Foley) cry of help that he whispered in Edison Davis’ (Norm Lewis) ear. But it may be Cyrus who needs help first. The Scandal spoilers video trailer for the season finale shows Jake calling 911 for what looks like an incapacitated Cyrus on the floor.
Did Rowan do something to Cyrus or is the secret Rowan knows about him so bad that Cyrus harmed himself? Also, did Fitz find out that Olivia aborted his baby? An agitated Fitz tells Abby Whelan (Darby Stanchfield) that “this is a lie.”
We know Abby had the proof, so did she tell Fitz the truth or did he find out elsewhere and she confirmed it? Fitz will be inconsolable once he knows and we have to wonder if that harsh truth will set the stage for him trying to take down Mellie’s campaign to get back at Olivia…
Jake begs Olivia to get him out. Recall, though, that Rowan told her he would slit Jake’s throat if she did one thing to remove him from his situation. Will Olivia refuse to help and freeze Jake out for his own good as she has been doing? Or will she tell Jake what bloody fate he’s facing if she intervenes?
Olivia will get some time in the Oval with Fitz – will she tell him what her father is orchestrating? Will Season 5 end with a character death? Is Cyrus dead as a doornail? Will Rowan take Jake out so Olivia never doubts his word again?
Is Rowan trying to leverage Cyrus to force him to put a VP pawn on the ticket with Vargas? Surely Rowan won’t let his presidential aspirations go just because Olivia got Edison to crash and burn his campaign. What is Papa Pope plotting?
