New The Young and The Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that fan favorite Michael Muhney might be back as Adam Newman. Recent shake-ups at the CBS soap plus some pointed social media comments from Michael Muhney hint that his long-awaited return could be in the works. Are you excited, Y&R fans?
Both Michael Muhney and Justin Hartley were big fan faves in the role of Adam Newman and both left abruptly triggering lots of angry outcry from Y&R viewers. But now that Justin Hartley has moved on to primetime stardom with This Is Us, there is nothing stopping TPTB at Y&R from bringing Muhney back.
When Jill Farren Phelps was fired from Y&R, Muhney had to be laughing hard since she was rumored to have orchestrated his exit from the soap. But with Phelps gone as well as Chuck Pratt Jr, there’s nothing to stand in the way of a triumphant return for Muhney as Adam Newman.
Are Michael Muhney’s recent tweets a sign that he’s inked a deal to return to The Young and The Restless as Adam? Let’s consider the progression.
#1 Justin Hartley’s primetime pilot This Is Us got picked up by NBC indicating that the actor would be leaving Y&R.
#2 Jill Farren Phelps was kicked to the curb in June – JFP was fired and replaced with Mal Young as many expected.
#3 Hunter King, JFP’s pet, was dropped to recurring in June – and she was part of the scheme that pushed Muhney out of Y&R.
#4 Michael Muhney begins tweeting Y&R themed posts, the first on June 16 when he posted a pic of himself and “my friend” Peter Bergman.
#5 Muhney tweets a pic of himself with Max Page (Reed Hellstrom portrayer) backstage at Y&R from his time on the CBS soap.
#6 Muhney tweeted disappointment that he came in second in two recent casting opportunities – this made him ripe for an offer from Y&R.
#7 Was Muhney in talks with CBS at this point since Hartley was leaving and two obstacles to his return (Phelps and King) were gone?
#8 Muhney tweets “There’s always another chapter to write” as the Y&R plot that led to Adam’s “death” and Hartley’s departure kicked up a notch.
#9 Muhney tweeted two uplifting tweets in late August including “101 reasons to smile today” that could indicate he inked a deal to return as Adam.
#10 Melissa Egan hinted in an interview that “I truly don’t think there is going to be another Adam.” Muhney is not “another Adam” though. Was this a hint?
There’s a new executive producer at the helm of Y&R and Mal Young has no beef or history with Michael Muhney to prevent them working well together plus the UK producer certainly knows what a hit Muhney’s return would be with fans.
Sally Sussman Molina just landed the new headwriter job and she’s no friend of JFP and also has no ax to grind with Muhney so might welcome his return. Consider this, too. Mal Young and Sally Sussman Molina want to get their new regime off to a brilliant start and recasting Muhney would do that.
