The highly-rated dramedy ‘This Is Us’ not only helped make Chrissy Metz a huge television star but also saved her personal life. The Hollywood actress admits that she was flat broke before landing her role as Kate Pearson on the hit NBC show.
Thanks to ‘This is Us,’ Chrissy Metz has become a household name. But Chrissy says that she was having major difficulties trying to make ends meet before she was cast for the show.
In an interview with Glamour Magazine, Chrissy admits that she was living off her credit cards while she was desperately trying to find a job in Hollywood. At one point, she considered giving up on her dreams by moving back to her parent’s house in Florida. Even though she had a role in ‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ back in 2014, she was struggling to find a stable television job.
She told the publication, “I went on unemployment. I bought ramen noodles at dollar stores. I never had to — God forbid — live on the streets; I moved in with a roommate who told me, ‘Stay with me until you can afford rent. Don’t give up.’ When I booked This Is Us, I had 81 cents in my bank account. I could cry right now just thinking about it.”
Chrissy has now become the breakout star of the show. That’s because many viewers are hoping to see her character Kate Pearson find peace with herself and her ongoing battle with her weight. In fact, multiple reports even indicate that Chrissy is contractually obligated to lose weight before filming the second season. That’s because Kate Pearson is expected to have gastric bypass surgery. Some even believe that Chrissy might have the surgery herself in order to lose her weight in time for the show.
Chrissy even admits in her interview that many of her fans have approached her about her role. She says that her role on ‘This is Us’ has helped plenty of women change their lives. Chrissy also reveals that she met her boyfriend, Josh Stancil, on the set of the show. He reportedly works as a cameraman on the set of ‘This is Us.’ Chrissy and Josh have been dating for a few short months now.
