‘Game of Thrones’ Spoilers: George R.R. Martin Shares New Spin-off Show Details

George R. R. Martin has just shared some new and exciting details about an upcoming ‘Game of Thrones’ spin-off show. New reports indicate that producers of the hit fantasy drama are planning not four, but five new spin-off shows, which means fans have a lot to look forward to in the next several years.

Reports say that HBO has been in talks with author George R. R. Martin for several months now about possibly developing four different spin-off shows. And now the ‘A Song of Fire and Ice’ series author is opening up about the show’s new stories in a ‘secondary universe.’ He also says that he hates referring to the new shows as spin-offs, and prefers to call them ‘Game of Thrones’ projects instead. He specified that each concept under development is for a prequel, not a sequel and that it will also have fresh new characters.

George R. R. Martin wrote in a blog entry for Live Journal, “We had four scripts in development when I arrived in LA last week, but by the time I left we had five. We have added a fifth writer to the original four. No, I will not reveal the name here. HBO announced the names of the first four, and will no doubt announce the fifth as well, once his deal has closed. He’s a really terrific addition, however, a great guy and a fine writer, and aside from me and maybe Elio and Linda, I don’t know anyone who knows and loves Westeros as well as he does.”

In addition, HBO said that the four ‘Game of Thrones’ projects that they have in the works have no set timetable and will be evaluated once their scripts are completed. While the network hasn’t offered many details, the new shows will “explore different time periods of George R. R. Martin’s vast and rich universe.”

Meanwhile, viewers are already looking forward to ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 returning to HBO this summer.  There are 13 episodes left in the hit series, with HBO breaking them up into two seasons, with seven for this year and six for next year. Season 8 is expected to debut sometime in 2018. Many insiders believe that a new spin-off season might debut as early as 2019.

In the meantime, ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 will return to the small screen on July 16.  Don’t forget to check back with CDL for all the latest news and updates on ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 spoilers right here!
