General Hospital Spoilers: Kirsten Storms Absence Pushes GH to Consider Temporary Maxie Recast?

General Hospital (GH) spoilers report that fans are missing fan-favorite Maxie and concerned about Kirsten Storm’s health as the actress is on another extended leave from the hit ABC soap. Some reports on the Internet have us wondering how long Kirsten Storms can stay gone from her role as Maxie Jones before the powers that be at the ABC soap begin shopping for a recast.

This is Storms’ third break in the past few years and more than any other General Hospital contract actor has taken. While ABC and Kirsten’s General Hospital castmates have shown complete sympathy and support for her, the practical requirements of running a leading TV show could lead to a difficult situation in which GH is forced to make a hard choice.

In 2007, Kirsten Storms was arrested for DUI and sentenced to three years’ probation, a 90-day alcohol treatment program and a series of Alcoholics Anonymous meetings just a couple of years after she started her stint on General Hospital.

Four years later, in 2011, Storms took a break from the soap claiming endometriosis but her brother’s fiancée Tiffany Lynn alleged on Twitter that Kirsten was in rehab, not suffering from a medical ailment.

Then five years later, in Spring 2016, not long after news broke of Kirsten’s divorce from Brandon Barash, she took another break. This time, Kirsten said she was suffering from severe skin issues due to stress and the toll the heavy makeup required on General Hospital took on her skin.

Last year, Molly Burnett stepped in to play Maxie for a few weeks because it was a pivotal time for the character. And then just a few days ago, news broke that Kirsten Storms was taking a much longer break from General Hospital, this time of three months with no explanation as to why.

Will Kirsten Storms’ absences be ongoing? How will her leave of absence impact her scene partner Ryan Paevey, portrayer of Maxie’s husband Nathan West? Can General Hospital keep a Nathan storyline active without Kirsten Storms on set to play a part with him?

With Damien Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) and Georgie all the way out in Portland, that makes it easier on the General Hospital writers dealing with a plot absence for Maxie. Plus, with Nina Cassadine (Michelle Stafford) firing Maxie from Crimson, that’s one less thread tying her to Port Charles.

But the real problem is Nathan and his newlywed status with Maxie. That’s the issue. General Hospital writers put fans through the wringer bringing back Claudette Beaulieu (Bree Williamson) to tempt Nathan and then finally getting them past that to getting hitched.

And then General Hospital hit us again by wrecking their New Year’s Eve wedding with Nathan’s reveal that he was still married to Claudette and Maxie’s terrible flu. Then we found out Claudette was “dead” which maybe she is and maybe she’s not – so Naxie finally got hitched at a surprise wedding.

On the Wednesday, March 29 GH episode, Nathan announced to his BFF and partner Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) that Maxie has taken a job out of town. This is how TPTB are covering Kirsten’s latest absence but this leaves a hole in the cast and leaves Nathan inexplicably hanging.

Perhaps General Hospital will recast Maxie temporarily, like they did with Molly Burnett, while Kirsten gets well enough to return and to keep plots moving forward?
