General Hospital spoilers reveal that Vanessa Marcil could be coming back to Port Charles based on her recent social media posts which hint at a GH return. Marcil tweeted about wearing Brenda Barrett’s jacket which implied she was on the GH set. General Hospital spoilers a while back mentioned something about an “old love” coming back into Sonny’s [Maurice Benard] life. “Old love” can really only mean one person – Brenda Barrett [Vanessa Marcil].
We haven’t heard an official announcement that Marcil is returning. These days she is engaged, identifying her present fiance by initials only. Her movie, ‘Deadly Devotion’, is in post-production.
At several points in the past Marcil drove fans crazy teasing that she might be returning, stating on Instagram that “big news is coming,” an announcement that “we are coming home,” followed by a photo of Sonny and Brenda. Hasn’t happened. Marcil last appeared at the Nurses’ Ball when GH celebrated its 50th anniversary of GH in 2013.
We don’t know how stable the Sonny/Carly marriage will be in the future after the Nelle cheating comes out during February Sweeps, nor do we know when Morgan will re-appear, so Sonny might be able to use some comforting soon. Carly seems torn between her love for Sonny and the havoc that his violent lifestyle has caused their family. And, as she rightly said, what will he do when he finds out who caused Morgan’s accident? He’s only not going after Julian Jerome because he knows Julian didn’t do it.
As for Brenda entering the current General Hospital scenario, let’s face it, her last few visits didn’t have the flavor of the old days. When she first returned, she had been living in Italy and had a boring storyline with a movie star boyfriend. When she went to Port Charles, she was part of a story arc involving the Balkan. She found out that her baby by the Balkan’s son, believed dead, was alive.
Brenda had the child come and live with her and Sonny, whom she married. It turned out to be the wrong kid. Once the right kid was back, she left Sonny for the same old reasons everybody else leaves him: his dangerous lifestyle.
We never knew if Brenda was pregnant when she left Sonny but just failed to mention it. If she returns, she might have two kids and will see that Sonny’s life has not changed. I don’t see much of a future for them.
But Brenda might be there as a friend to help Sonny through a trying time. As long as her character doesn’t undergo a complete metamorphosis and her story arc makes sense, fans would love to see her. However, until Sonny quits his lifestyle, his chance of a stable, long-lasting relationship is nil.
