Kate Middleton is often seen holding a small purse with two hands whenever she is in public. And it’s not because she’s pregnant and trying to hide her baby bump from the public. Instead, it’s because she refuses to shake hands with other people during her royal engagements. And now the Duchess of Cambridge is being slammed for what many people think is poor etiquette during her public appearances.
While Kate Middleton has been holding her purse in front of her for years now, no one knew exactly why. And now the mystery has finally been solved. Critics and fans know why Kate Middleton always clutches her purse in her hands. It’s because she wants to avoid shaking hands with other people. But is she doing it because she wants to avoid physical contact with other people or simply because she has poor etiquette? That’s what royal observers want to know.
According to the Daily Mail, etiquette expert William Hanson even said, “It is protocol that you do not extend your hand to any member of the royal family unless their hand extends first. With more experience, The Duchess of Cambridge will soon realize that she needn’t be too nice, extend and shake hands with everyone. A courteous smile at those whom she does not have time to shake hands will suffice.”
Yet, not everyone agrees. In fact, some sources think that Kate might be simply be acting like a snob by refusing to shake hands with the people she meets. Of course, no one knows why Kate Middleton insists on being so standoffish in public. In comparison, Princess Diana rarely kept her two hands on her purse in public, even when she was carrying a clutch. Instead, she often reached out to shake hands with people whenever it was possible. That’s why so many critics simply think that Kate might just be a snob in public.
