Prince Charles thinks Buckingham Palace is a dump and apparently that’s why he refuses to call it his next home. Reports say that Prince Charles and his wife Camilla Parker-Bowles have no plans to move to Buckingham Palace, despite the fact that the royal family is spending an estimated $500 million dollars in refurbishment plans.
And while a spokesperson for Clarence House released a statement that says, “Buckingham Palace will remain the official London residence of the monarch” royals critics are having a hard time believing it. In fact, even royal biographer Penny Junor thinks that it is highly unlikely that the future King of England will live in Buckingham Palace, simply because it doesn’t fit with his vision for the future. That’s because Charles is looking to slim-down the monarchy’s property portfolio. He wants to use Buckingham Palace to entertain heads of state rather than a place to sleep at night.
Earlier reports indicated that one of the reasons why Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles refuse to move to Buckingham Palace is because Charles is no fan of the palace and that Camilla feels more comfortable living in Clarence House. For her, it’s cozy and much more livable. After all, they’ve been there for years and at this point in their lives simply don’t want to deal with the hassle of moving from one place to another.
If that weren’t enough, Prince Charles apparently has plans to transform Buckingham palace into a place where he can conduct business matters and nothing more. He wants to convert some parts of the palace into a museum with exhibits dedicated to Queen Elizabeth and her reign. For many royal observers, that makes sense especially since the palace is already open to the public during the summer months.
With both Prince Charles and Prince William refusing to call Buckingham Palace home, it’s safe to say that the British monarchy will be seeing plenty of changes in the coming years, if not months. Prince Charles is making it pretty clear that he is going to rule the monarchy his way, regardless of whether or not Queen Elizabeth agrees to it.
So far Prince Charles himself has not made any comments about what his next step will be or his future living arrangements for that matter.
