The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Will Adam Newman Be Confirmed Dead – Justin Hartley Cameo Completes Storyline?

The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that the endless speculation that has existed about the fate of Adam Newman (Justin Hartley) could soon come an end. Will Y&R show in an upcoming scene that was either recorded prior to Hartley’s departure from Y&R last summer and kept in the can, or made while he was on hiatus from This Is Us, Adam’s moment of death and his identifiable corpse?

A brief retelling of the moments leading up and now, including Adam’s death will be shown. The never-before-seen ending will answer all outstanding questions reasoned viewers previously had.

One of the greatest extended storylines in modern soap opera history will be definitively shut. This anticipated, behind the scenes decision will be a message from executive producer and now head writer Mal Young to the show’s loyal fan base. He and TPTB at Y&R must feel that the Adam character was too divisive an issue to warrant a second hyped revival.

In wanting to avoid the type of rampantly ridiculous backlash that was evidenced after Michael Muhney was let go nearly four years ago, Young has opted to confirm that Adam was in fact killed off by Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) last September at the cabin in the woods. In so doing many character’s storylines will move forward without speculation about how Adam’s return might affect them.

This possible coming revelation on Y&R will not be enough to stop conspiracy theorists from believing that the presented scenes aren’t real, or are a ruse. However, all balanced daytime viewers will accept that the end of this enigmatic character has arrived.

Recasting Adam with anyone other than Muhney would have alienated his rather substantial number of fans. Hiring what would have been a fourth actor (following Chris Engen, Muhney and Hartley) to play the adult version of this character was seen as too much of a gamble.

Muhney’s admission that his on-set attitude rubbed too many cast members the wrong way and thereby forced the hand of former executive producer Jill Farren Phelps to not retain him, proved problematic. With whatever promises Muhney could have made about his future behavior being kept in check, agreeing to rehire him would have put Y&R in a seemingly untenable position if any further issues would have arisen.

Hartley’s prime time success on NBC’s hit show precludes him from being able to handle the schedule rigors that a soap requires, which therefore made his potential return impossible. However, his solid fit as Muhney’s replacement did allow for a satisfying run (November 2014 – September 2016) to be had.
