General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that the ABC soap may have been forced to shift gears. According to Soap Opera Digest, one daytime drama had to change their plans. A story was created for a popular vet, but the actor turned down the chance to be part of it.
This blind item could be about any of the four main soaps, but GH certainly makes sense. General Hospital spoilers were pointing toward a big Cassadine storyline a few months ago. There were several signs that one might be brewing.
Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) received her mother’s watch, which the characters still comment on occasionally. However, it seems like there are no plans to rev up this story anytime soon. General Hospital currently has plenty of other material tackle, so they may have tabled it for now.
We can’t forget about Cassandra (Jessica Tuck) and that Cassadine angle either. Someone with a Cassadine ring scooped her up, but General Hospital never revealed which one was responsible or why. They may not have even known for sure at the time of filming. GH could’ve easily left their options open while they tried to lock in a fan favorite’s return.
Stephen Nichols (ex-Stefan Cassadine) might be a good candidate here. General Hospital may have thought since he was no longer at Days of Our Lives, he might be interested in a GH comeback. The show likes to snatch up discarded stars from time to time, especially when they were once popular in Port Charles.
Of course, Nichols could’ve rejected their offer for many reasons. For example, he might’ve been holding out for a new contract at Days. It’d be better to get something long-term instead of just a short-term arc, which is what this sounds like.
Then again, Nichols might’ve wanted to take advantage of his new time off. He did a little traveling and family bonding right after his DOOL departure, so that’s another possibility. Nicholas could’ve used his shot at stepping away from the soap grind.
A third option might be that Nichols simply didn’t like the story. If he didn’t approve of the direction they intended to take Stefan in, that would’ve been a decent reason to pass. Whatever the case, the Cassadine chaos appears to have stalled. It could be a while before General Hospital settles on the official story and lets it play out.
