The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that some soap hopping’s in the works. The latest Days of Our Lives buzz says a Kristen DiMera recast is on the way. Of course, that news affects Y&R’s Eileen Davidson (Ashley Abbott). She sometimes pops in at DOOL to reprise the role of Kristen, but it seems she’s got her hands full with Ashley right now.
Days still needs Kristen for an upcoming storyline, so a recast is the only option. There’s no confirmation on who will replace Davidson, but one name is gaining some traction. Word has it that Stacy Haiduk (Patty Williams) may be stepping in Kristen’s shoes for a short stint.
Recasts usually aren’t popular among fans, but sometimes that’s just how it goes in the soap biz. Davidson debuted as Kristen back in 1993, so it’ll be tough to get used to someone else as the devious DiMera. However, it sounds like Days might’ve made a good choice as a substitute. If Haiduk is indeed the new Kristen, she should be able to deliver a similar character with her own twist on it.
Kristen is sneaky, confident and just a little unhinged. The Young and the Restless viewers have seen Haiduk portray those qualities as “Crazy Patty.” Patty is certainly much further off the deep end than Kristen, but neither one of them is exactly sane! Haiduk could dial it down and most likely play a fine version of Kristen at Days.
Again, this obviously isn’t the ideal situation. In a perfect world, Davidson would have time to portray all our soapy favorites. Alas, she doesn’t have an evil twin to fill in for her! Real life brings schedule conflicts and there’s often no way around them. Davidson’s a busy gal, so DOOL’s just trying to handle this as best as they can.
On the bright side, Haiduk is well-liked and would make a solid cast addition at Days. It’s always nice when soaps can borrow talent from other daytime dramas. As for Davidson, The Young and the Restless spoilers say she has plenty of material coming up in Genoa City. Jack’s (Peter Bergman) paternity will soon be exposed publicly, so Ashley will get caught in the shocking aftermath.
