The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that one soap star has been quietly suffering. Medical issues are often a big part of the drama on Y&R, but Lexie Stevenson (Mattie) has been going through a real-life crisis. She decided to open up to fans in a heartbreaking blog post.
Stevenson talked about making several trips to the emergency room over the past couple weeks. She took the opportunity to fill everyone in on the battle she’s facing. “I have a disease called Endometriosis,” Stevenson said. She wanted to clarify what this condition is and how it affects females.
“Endometriosis is when endometrial tissue grows outside of the uterus,” Stevenson explained. “The endometrial tissue attaches to organs and creates a blister type of effect. This causes an immense amount of pain that has landed me and many other women in emergency rooms around the world.”
Stevenson admitted her latest ER trips are nothing new. It took a long time to figure out what was going on, so Stevenson experienced frustration during countless examinations. She said, “I was in and out of the hospital for 4-5 years before I was diagnosed with Endometriosis. 70% of women aren’t diagnosed for 6 years after they start experiencing this pain.”
Stevenson added that she had a particularly rough fight with pain about a year and a half ago. It was so unbearable that she couldn’t get up off the floor. Stevenson’s doctors found a large growth, which had to be removed from one of her ovaries. She was told it could be cancerous, so it was better to be on the safe side.
After surgery, Stevenson was informed that endometrial tissue had been causing some serious issues. “I should have been in pain 24/7 because had my body not healed itself I would have likely died,” Stevenson said. Fortunately, she knows what she’s dealing with now and has found ways to combat the pain. Stevenson suggested that cutting out gluten eased the agony.
Since March is endometriosis awareness month, Stevenson wanted to share her story and hopefully help other people who might be facing a similar battle. As for what’s ahead on Y&R, The Young and the Restless spoilers say Mattie will make progress with Cane (Daniel Goddard). She wasn’t happy about her father’s infidelity, but their family’s healing and Mattie’s moving toward true forgiveness.
