The Young and the Restless spoilers have some sad news to pass on about the close friend of a fan-favorite Y&R star. Eric Braeden, who portrays Victor Newman on the CBS soap, recently shared some heartbreaking news with his followers on social media. One of his oldest friends has suffered two strokes and is battling Alzheimer’s Disease.
Eric shared the news with his fans on Twitter. He posted a photograph of himself with his friend, along with the following words: “My oldest buddy, with whom I won the US CHAMPIONSHIP IN SOCCER, who was a professor of WESTERN CIVILIZATION, whose daughters grew up across from my family, who is now succumbing to ALZHEIMER’S and two strokes! Enjoy your friends and family.”
Eric is very active on Twitter, and he’s used to interacting heavily with fans and sharing his opinions on various topics with them. Many of his fans have responded to Eric’s tweet with kind words and stories of their own family members’ bouts with Alzheimer’s Disease.
One fan wrote: “It’s such a horrid disease! My brother has early onset Alzheimer’s and it’s devastating. Reminds me to embrace every day. Enjoy my family and friends and love them with all my heart.” And another wrote: “Prayers to him and to you. Very sad when people we care most about have to face a tremendous journey that breaks our hearts.”
Eric has re-tweeted many of his fans’ replies, and he’s even responded to some of them. One fan replied to Eric’s original tweet with: “I’m so sorry. Much love to you, your friend, and to his family and friends.” Eric replied: “Brilliant guy, tough player, great father and grandfather and now doesn’t recognize anyone…”
And another fan stated that she “took care of my mother 5 years 24/7..most rewarding but heart wrenching thing I have done.” Eric replied: “WOW! Hat off to you!!” It’s great to see Eric and his fans interacting and sharing their grief experiences.
