Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers reveal that Camila Banus’ (Gabi Hernandez DiMera) upcoming exit has finally been confirmed. Daytime Confidential offered that confirmation from multiple sources, but this should come as no surprise to DOOL fans. Banus’ departure has been expected for months, but now it’s official that Gabi will indeed leave Salem.
However, we have to address the real reason why Banus is exiting – and it’s not because she wants to pursue primetime roles. Banus seemingly clarified that back in February, which is when speculation first began about her exit as Gabi.
The Days of Our Lives actress posted a weepy video in her car, which indicated Banus was extremely upset about something that had just gone down. This was right around the time we learned Galen Gering (Rafe Hernandez), Chandler Massey (Will Horton) and Freddie Smith (Sonny Kiriakis) would all be exiting.
Although Massey, Smith and Gering were fired, Banus was a different situation according to Days insiders. Banus was reportedly asked to take a pay cut, which certainly lines up with that emotional video she posted. Let’s revisit what Banus had to say at the time.
“No matter what struggles you have, if people are trying to put you down…if people are trying to make things unfair…for you to have less than and for others to have more, always, always fight for what you deserve and always fight for what you believe in,” Banus said.
She fought tears as she declared, “No matter what it is, you fight for what’s fair!”
We can’t ignore something like this when Banus herself posted the video in an Instagram story. To suggest Banus was excited to pursue primetime just isn’t accurate based on her outburst. Banus obviously wanted to stay and thought she deserved more money than Days was offering her.
Besides, Banus already tried leaving to pursue film and primetime opportunities. That was the plan after Banus made her onscreen departure in 2014, but she was eager to get back on the show soon after.
Banus made some guest appearances before her official return in 2015, which is when Gabi was released from prison.
Although Banus is incredibly talented, showbiz is tough! It’s awfully competitive out there, so the idea of stable employment at Days of Our Lives is appealing for many stars. That’s especially true following the pandemic and this lengthy production shutdown.
Banus came back once, so could she do it again? DOOL insiders suggest there’s been more talk between Banus and the show. Days of Our Lives definitely needs Gabi – and Banus apparently wants to continue at Days for the right price.
Everyone would benefit from working out a deal here, so we’d say it’s quite likely it’ll happen.
