Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers tease that Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) will head back to Salem after her current stint concludes later this month. Sami will return to film more scenes before 2020’s over and will stick around for another lengthy Salem run – one that lasts through most of 2021.
With that in mind, we should consider a crucial role that the show will essentially be replacing.
Kristian Alfonso’s (Hope Brady) departure no doubt freed up a ton of money to hire Sweeney for this lengthy stint. We should also note that Alfonso slammed the writing at Days and seemingly sparked a feud with DOOL Head Writer Ron Carlivati in the process.
Carlivati has been sending out lovely goodbye messages to most departing cast members, but for Alfonso? Crickets.
It’s worth mentioning that Carlivati is a huge Sami fan based on his tweets. Carlivati has talked about always being “Team Sami” and clearly values Sweeney as someone of value to the show.
With all this in mind, perhaps Sami will slide right on in Hope’s spot – at least when it comes to Hope’s best romantic option in Salem.
Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) will need another love interest without Hope around, so why not Sami? Could a “Safe” reunion be brewing? Sami still loves EJ DiMera (last played by James Scott), but Days of Our Lives has been dragging their feet on recasting him.
They also haven’t been able to lock in Scott for a return stint, so what does that mean for Sami?
Unless something changes and they can get Scott back or they recast EJ, Sami may need another romance. Since Sami will be around long-term, it makes it much more likely that Sami will turn to another man for comfort.
EJ obviously isn’t doing very well at his treatment facility since there’s been talk about a setback. Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo) also ranted about Sami wanting to take their grandbaby back to Italy so she could “hover over what’s left of EJ.”
Unless EJ makes miraculous improvements, he may not be in working condition anytime soon – and Sami has needs!
Lucas is another romantic option for Sami, but it makes more sense for Carlivati to be petty and give Sami the love story he would’ve given Hope. Sami is Carlivati’s golden girl – and Alfonso dissed Carlivati’s work in her exit interview with Soap Opera Digest.
This could be Carlivati’s chance to stick it to Alfonso just a bit.
