Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers tease that Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan) will get a fantastic offer that changes his life, but it’ll mean leaving his wife behind in Salem. The good news is Nicole Brady (Arianne Zucker) will support Eric and remain happily married to him. The bad news is that plan can’t last indefinitely.
DOOL will concentrate on Nicole’s friendships and other strong bonds in the months ahead. Nicole and Allie Horton (Lindsay Arnold) will share plenty of airtime, so that’ll keep Nicole busy for now.
However, what happens down the road? How long can Nicole realistically have an offscreen husband? This doesn’t seem like an arrangement that can work for years.
Days writers could make it so Eric winds up presumed dead or simply drifts apart from Nicole. There could even be some cheating from one or both that splits them up eventually. There’s also the possibility that Days of Our Lives will recast or simply hold out hope that they can lock in a Greg Vaughan return sooner or later.
However, Vaughan seems pretty content in his decision to be off the show for the time being. With that in mind, let’s consider another option that would take care of Nicole’s love interest situation. Should Shawn Christian return as back-from-the-dead Daniel Jonas or perhaps a new character?
Christian and Zucker are a couple in real life, so this would be especially ideal for Days at the moment. Although the show does plan to do some forms of intimacy when necessary, they wouldn’t have to worry about social distancing between Zucker and Christian since they are a real-life couple.
We should mention that Christian was willing to come back for a fun April Fool’s Day show earlier this year. Days of Our Lives might be able to lock Christian in for a long-term stint at some point. The dead rarely stay dead in Salem, so there’s always a chance any deceased character will return.
Although Daniel’s heart was donated to Brady Black (Eric Martsolf), DOOL could still concoct some soapy explanation to undo Daniel’s death if they wanted to.
Then again, maybe they could go for an identical twin story – one that plays on the similarities of what happened recently with Jake Lambert (Brandon Barash) and Stefan DiMera (Brandon Barash).
As a different twist, maybe Christian could even play someone completely unrelated to Daniel – someone who just so happens to look exactly like him. Nicole could be drawn to the man who has her dead fiancé’s face anyway.
Of course, Eric will always be Nicole’s true love, but it’s a good idea to think ahead and try to figure out what Days might do with Eric out of the picture. If Eric stays gone for a year or more, it might be time to think about another love interest for Nicole.
Bringing Shawn Christian back as Daniel or another character might be appealing to some fans out there.
