Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers tease that Camila Banus will exit the part of Gabi Hernandez DiMera, so we should consider this character’s long-term future. It looks like Gabi will head off canvas by around early September, but what happens after that? Will Gabi be gone for good? Will the role of Gabi be recast?
These questions are on the minds of Gabi fans as well as fans of Banus’ onscreen pairing with Brandon Barash (Jake Lambert, ex-Stefan DiMera). Gabi’s been a major player in Salem for quite some time, so her absence will certainly be felt from the get-go.
Since Gabi’s been getting so much focus, it’s almost tough to imagine Days of Our Lives without her now.
That brings us to the topic of a recast. Due to Gabi’s importance on canvas, could Days be tempted to recast the role? It’s possible, but we’d say it’s unlikely for a few reasons.
For starters, DOOL insiders insist the show really did try to work out a deal with Banus. They were apparently lowballing Banus with their offer, but they genuinely wanted her to stay and were trying to figure things out at one point.
Stephen Nichols (Steve Johnson) is another Days actor who fought for what he was worth in the past and was ultimately written out. Nichols and DOOL were able to reach an agreement eventually, so it’d be worth it for Days to hold out hope on Banus.
Banus has come back to Days of Our Lives before – and we’d say Banus will do it again if the show will just be patient or try a little harder on making a deal.
Plus, Days of Our Lives spoilers say things will shift to some other storylines and move in new directions following Gabi’s departure. It looks like Jake will be in Abigail DiMera’s (Marci Miller) orbit – and that’ll naturally leave Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) and Gwen (Emily O’Brien) in the mix.
DOOL can play around with that quad for a bit, so there’s no hurry on making any kind of decision about a Gabi recast.
Even so, we’d say a Gabi recast probably isn’t happening. Days would be better off playing the waiting game and hoping Banus will reprise the part. Although there’s no buzz about Banus’ comeback yet, anything can happen after this lengthy shutdown.
There could be returns and many other changes in the show’s plans, so it’ll be interesting to see who actually shows up to set in September!
