General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that fans are growing curious thanks to some new story developments. Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) recently opened up to Ava Jerome (Maura West) about his guilt regarding Hayden Barnes’ (Rebecca Budig) disappearance. Ava pointed out that Hayden surely knew it was safe to return home, which led to some somber conclusions.
There was also plenty of Hayden talk between Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) and Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst), who acknowledged that Nik’s return was public.
Liz couldn’t understand why Hayden wasn’t back, but Nikolas chose to be honest later. Nikolas admitted that either Hayden is running foul with someone really bad or she’s been in some kind of accident.
Of course, this brings up some important questions. Is Hayden dead or alive? Why is GH suddenly acknowledging the obvious and suggesting that Hayden should’ve been back?
It seems like they might be setting up more revelations, especially since Violet Barnes (Jophielle Love) has been missing her mom more lately. Violet’s birthday is approaching, so that gives GH writers a reason to move this story along.
Nikolas insisted that if Hayden’s dead, it’s his fault. Since Nik has done so many horrible things already, it seems like a bad idea to pile more on. Plus, Hayden is a complex character who needs to be kept alive for future return stints.
Hayden’s relationship with Violet is so sweet, and Budig has great onscreen chemistry with Easton. There’s no point in confirming Hayden’s death and making a return more difficult.
Many Finn and Hayden fans want that door left open in case this family might be reunited one day. So what are the options here? They could leave it just as Nikolas said – Hayden’s gone without a trace. It could be a dangling mystery until Budig hopefully signs on for another comeback down the road.
General Hospital could also offer a bit more proof that points to Hayden’s death without guaranteeing it. That might provide enough closure, but it certainly wouldn’t be great news. Making Hayden dead-dead is also a possibility, but again – it just feels pointless under the circumstances.
Naturally, we should consider the other non-deadly option that was presented. Has Hayden run into some trouble with another GH villain? This could set up a whole new storyline and provide some great drama.
Perhaps an old baddie could make a comeback – if only to give fans updates about what’s really going on. Hayden wouldn’t have to make a long-term return for that to happen.
