General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that we finally have the answer to big casting mystery. Many GH fans have been wondering who Kim Delaney (ex-Jenny Gardner on All My Children) would be playing.
The news of Delaney’s hiring kicked off plenty of speculation, which is always part of the fun when someone’s announced to join the show.
However, it’s also fun to finally nail down the character and start speculating about what stories are brewing. Thanks to Tristan Rogers (Robert Scorpio), we now know who Delaney will ultimately make her debut as. In a Cameo video, Rogers leaked that Delaney would be playing Jackie Templeton.
That’s a name buried pretty far back in the history books, but you may recognize if you’re a GH history buff or were watching from 1982-1984. That’s when Demi Moore was playing the role of Jackie, who had a relationship with Robert at one point.
Jackie’s romance with Robert faced some speed bumps after Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) brought Holly Sutton (Emma Samms) into the picture. It sounds like Robert and Jackie will cross paths and potentially be involved in a storyline together since Rogers is the one confirming this news.
Sadly, General Hospital viewers shouldn’t expect Holly resolution anytime soon. Rogers suggested Holly’s new faked death was a way to put the story on the backburner again.
The GH actor hinted that it might be revisited in 2021, but he’s not optimistic due to the COVID-19 battle Samms faced and the lingering effects.
In other words, Jackie isn’t showing up as part of some new angle in the Holly storyline. That’s over for the time being.
With that in mind, why is General Hospital bringing back a character from the 80s who had a short shelf life? There has to be a good reason they picked Jackie as opposed to creating a new character.
Maybe the goal was to have a blast-from-the-past character be tied to some newer ones. Based on Jackie’s age and the fact that we don’t know what she’s been up to since 1984, she could still be Harrison Chase’s (Josh Swickard) mother and Hamilton Finn’s (Michael Easton) stepmom.
General Hospital seems to be gearing up to include Gregory Chase (James Read) and his wife for Finn and Anna Devane’s (Finola Hughes) looming nuptials.
If so, they have to cast someone for that mom and stepmother role – and it might as well be Delaney’s Jackie Templeton! It’d actually be an interesting way for the past and present to collide.
Nevertheless, we’d say Jackie’s career might be the main reason she’s coming back. Jackie used to be a top-notch investigative reporter, so she’ll likely be the one who tackles the Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) story. Lulu Spencer (Emme Rylan) wants to get some national media attention, so Jackie may return to help with that.
Regardless, it’s nice to know for sure who Kim Delaney’s playing! We’ll give you updates as the debut of this Jackie Templeton recast gets closer.
