The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that the CBS soap has offered up an intriguing mystery for November sweeps. Y&R fans know someone wearing a dark coat and gloves aimed a gun at Adam Newman (Mark Grossman), but Chance Chancellor (Donny Boaz) took the bullet instead.
Now everybody’s wondering who shot Chance – and we’re hoping Y&R writers pull off something truly surprising.
Let’s consider some clues as we try to solve this whodunit. One big hint came from The Young and the Restless Head Writer and Co-Executive Producer Josh Griffith in a recent issue of SOD. Griffith teased, “We will soon learn that Chelsea is keeping a major secret from everyone in her life.”
That’s interesting because Chelsea comes clean about the kidnapping and Adam’s plans for Newman Tower on November 11. What else is there? It’s possible that Chelsea left out the part about shooting Adam, but it seems like Chelsea would at least tell Chloe Mitchell (Elizabeth Hendrickson) if that were true.
As one of Genoa City’s biggest Adam haters and someone who’s shot Adam herself, Chloe would certainly understand Chelsea’s desire to take Adam out. Chance’s inadvertent involvement does make it messy, but it still seems like a secret that Chelsea would tell her bestie.
Besides, Chelsea was snatched without anything on her. She only had the clothes on her back. Where did Chelsea get a gun so fast? And would Chelsea really go that far since she admits she still loves Adam in the November 30 episode as well?
Having Chelsea be the shooter seems too easy and doesn’t make sense. Nevertheless, Chelsea DOES have a secret she’s holding back. Griffith confirmed that, so let’s consider the idea that it’s something further in the past.
If you were writing a whodunit and wanted the big reveal to be a huge surprise, who would you make the shooter? A “dead” guy would be a great option that nobody would suspect. What if Chelsea’s late husband Calvin Boudreau (John Burke) faked his death?
In July 2019, Calvin acted quite strange after his meeting with Adam and perplexed Chelsea by suggesting she should give Connor Newman (Judah Mackey) up. Chelsea wondered if Adam threatened Calvin, but he denied it and acted like a boy should be with his father.
Later in the night, Chelsea woke up and realized Calvin was suddenly dead. It was supposedly a heart attack, but the whole thing was just weird. Chelsea never even really grieved Calvin to be honest. We also know Calvin had all that Simon Black (Jeffrey Vincent Parise) drama haunting him, so that could’ve been part of the equation.
Of course, we also have to remember that Chelsea is a con artist at her core. What if Y&R hasn’t offered us the whole story? Did Chelsea make some sort of deal with Calvin to keep his faked death a secret?
If so, it’s possible that Calvin’s life hasn’t been going so great since then. If Calvin’s been keeping tabs on Chelsea, he would also know Adam got downright vicious and locked her up. Calvin might’ve been seeking revenge on Chelsea’s behalf.
Plus, Calvin could view Adam’s own return from the “dead” as the source of all his problems. Maybe Calvin decided to just kill Adam again only to be foiled by Chance.
This might also leave Chelsea feeling sorry for Adam eventually if he was targeted because of her. It could be a way to pull Chelsea and Adam back together if that’s how Y&R writers want to take things. Regardless, it’s an intriguing idea to ponder since this mystery’s still in play.
