The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy) will struggle with guilt over her betrayal with Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic). Elena and Nate agreed to never speak of this again, but that won’t be so easy for Elena.
There’s already been a moment where Elena seemed on the verge of confessing, but she ultimately backed out.
However, this story would be far more exciting if Elena keeps the secret to herself for a while. Despite Elena’s guilt, she’ll likely find a way to shove it down and accept that she just can’t hurt Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) like that. Of course, that may be when Elena realizes she’s pregnant!
A paternity mystery is almost certainly happening, so what’s Elena going to do? Elena might end up arguing with Nate about coming clean, but he may think it doesn’t matter.
Elena is with Devon and wants a family with him. Perhaps Nate will push Elena to just pretend this baby is Devon’s whether it is or not.
Nevertheless, Elena and Nate aren’t the only secret-keepers involved here. We can’t forget that Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) showed up at the clinic right as Elena was rushing out.
Nick also saw Nate putting his shirt back on – and Nick’s reaction told us he got the picture. It’s clear that Nick knows exactly what Nate and Elena were up to that night at the clinic.
Even so, Nick doesn’t seem in any hurry to tell Devon. Although Devon is a friend of Nick’s, the look on Nick’s face suggested he was taking “this is awful, but it’s none of my business” approach. Nick may think it’s not his place to rat out Elena and Nate, so he probably just plans to stay out of this.
Naturally, Nick’s opinion may change drastically if Elena learns she’s pregnant as expected. Devon may start happily spreading the news – just assuming the baby is his.
Devon doesn’t know Elena’s been with anyone else, so he’ll believe he’s the father. Elena and Nate may decide letting Devon continue to believe that’s for the best. They might even agree to skip a paternity test for now.
It may not be long until Nick corners Nate or even Elena with questions about when this kid was conceived. Nick may flat-out ask Nate if that could be his baby. This should be a real sticking point for Nick, who knows the pain paternity secrets can cause.
Nick’s faced this more than once during this history on The Young and the Restless, but let’s focus on the most recent Y&R paternity drama with Christian Newman (Alex Wilson). First, Nick believed Christian was his biological son, which set up his grief when he thought Christian died.
In reality, Christian was given to Sharon Newman (Sharon Case), who began raising him as “Sully” with Dylan McAvoy (Steve Burton). Nick eventually found out Sully was Christian and demanded his son back.
It wasn’t until later that Nick found out Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) tampered with the initial paternity test. The true results left Nick in tears as he realized he wasn’t Christian’s bio dad after all.
That didn’t change how much Nick loves Christian, but it did lead to tons of problems – including a nasty custody battle with Adam upon his return to town. Adam also revealed to Christian that he was his real dad, so the poor kid’s going to have so many issues as he gets older.
When you take all that into consideration, how could Nick possibly stay silent? Nick’s obviously going to worry that Devon will get duped and grow attached to a child that isn’t his own – only for Nate to claim the kid later.
Nick may fear Nate will change his mind and want his child back, just like Adam did for a while.
Will this cause Nick to spill the truth about what he witnessed that night? Nick might think it’d be better to get a paternity test before the baby arrives and Devon starts bonding with him or her.
It’s just a mess that Devon would be better off avoiding from the get-go. This should give Nick a solid reason to come clean if Elena and Nate won’t!
