The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Eric Braeden Reignites Gina Tognoni vs. Michelle Stafford Debate – Speaks Out on Phyllis Summers Role

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) is reigniting a debate that many viewers still feud about. Y&R fans will recall that Gina Tognoni was fired from the role of Phyllis Summers last year, which paved the way for Michelle Stafford’s comeback. The news left some people disappointed, others jumping for joy and some with mixed feelings.

Now that Stafford has had plenty of time to settle back in the role, the Phyllis wars have died down a bit. However, there are certainly still viewers who preferred Tognoni’s version and aren’t shy about speaking their minds. There are also loyal Stafford supporters who are quick to defend her, too.

It always turns into a pretty heated topic once people get started on it. The same goes for Braeden, who had a pretty passionate response to a fan’s tweet about this tale of two Phyllises. Let’s look at what Braeden had to say on his Twitter account recently.

“She‘s a damned good actress!” Braeden tweeted about Tognoni. “But Michelle created that part! So, it‘s a conundrum created totally unnecessarily by some EP who thought they could change things around!! DON’’T effing fix something the WASN’T BROKE!! I can’t stand these egos who think they know!”

That tweet seemed to be more in support of Tognoni, but Braeden soon sent out another tweet that muddied the waters. “MICHELLE originated that part ! She should never have been let go , PERIOD! Gina is a great actress, loved working with her , but MICHELLE should NEVER have left the show ! That’s the mistake some cocky new EPs make!! It’s annoying as hell!!”

Of course, Stafford gave Soap Opera Digest an exit interview when she left Y&R back in 2013 and indicated it was her decision to leave. She basically made it clear there was no room for negotiation since she wanted to pursue other projects at the time. Perhaps Braeden just means he’s upset that they let Stafford slip away in the first place. He might’ve thought more could be done to convince her.

One thing’s for sure: We’ll probably never hear the end of the great Phyllis debate! There are always going to be people who miss Tognoni in the role while others like having Stafford back on The Young and the Restless.

No matter which team you’re on, Stafford’s sticking around and Phyllis is poised to heat up a current love triangle. It looks like Abby Newman’s (Melissa Ordway) got some serious competition for “Chance” Chancellor (Donny Boaz), so stay tuned.
