The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers update for Tuesday, September 1, teases that some conflict’s coming up in Genoa City. At Sharon Newman’s (Sharon Case) place, Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) admits she’s trying to figure out how hard she can let Sharon have it for putting Adam Newman’s (Mark Grossman) recovery before her own.
Sharon realizes Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) filled Mariah in on her trip to Kansas. She knows Mariah’s concerned, but it was an emergency. “It was Adam’s emergency,” Mariah insists. Mariah wonders if there’s any greater emergency than Sharon’s health right now.
Sharon’s listening to her doctors and focusing on her recovery, but she isn’t going to put her life on hold – especially not when it comes to people she cares about.
Sharon doesn’t want to be coddled, so she pushes Mariah to speak her mind. Mariah admits things can get pretty toxic between Sharon and Adam. He already cost Sharon her relationship with Rey once before.
Mariah points out that Sharon has an amazing thing going with Rey; she doesn’t want to see Adam’s latest issues screw it up. Sharon promises she’s not going to lose Rey over this, but she’s grateful for Mariah’s support. After Mariah’s gone, Sharon grabs her keys and heads out the door.
At the penthouse, Adam lets Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) in and thinks his dad’s riding in like the cavalry. Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) once again reassures Adam that he’s not a coldblooded murderer and insists Victor knows that, too.
Adam disagrees and argues that Victor’s known who he is since he was 11 years old. Victor has watched that darkness manifest for years according to Adam.
Adam brings up trying to kill Victor not that long ago, but Chelsea argues that he only switched Victor’s meds and never meant to kill him. Although Adam told himself the same thing at the time, he wonders now how he can be so sure he didn’t want his father gone just like AJ Montalvo..
On Tuesday’s Y&R episode, Adam thinks Chelsea’s in denial about who he really is. Victor refuses to go anywhere until he talks to Adam, so he sends Chelsea to the ranch with Connor Newman (Judah Mackey).
Chelsea isn’t thrilled, but she agrees to go spend the night there. Even so, Chelsea isn’t giving up on this conversation or Adam.
Once Adam’s alone with his father, Victor insists he doesn’t want to see Adam suffer. He intends to prove there’s no need for Adam to be scared of himself. Adam wants Victor to stop trying to play the hero.
He thinks his is always about the great Victor Newman. “By absolving me, you absolve yourself,” Adam says to Victor.
Adam argues that Victor didn’t save him – Victor ruined him! If Victor hadn’t covered up the crime, Adam feels like maybe he would’ve dealt with the consequences and learned right from wrong.
Victor argues that Adam killed AJ accidentally and had no evil in his heart – both Victor and Hope Wilson knew that. “You’re still lying,” Adam insists.
Adam thinks Victor was concerned about Adam killing again, but he argues they were worried about how he’d cope with the trauma. Victor notes that Adam now has a chance to seek help himself.
Adam doesn’t need Victor to tell him what to do, so Victor takes off. Adam’s about to leave soon after, but Sharon shows up at his door.
Adam admits he’s considering leaving town – and this time he won’t be found. Sharon doesn’t think Adam can run from himself; he’ll still have the same thoughts and fears. Adam is grateful for Sharon’s help, but he wants her to focus on herself now.
Sharon agrees and has a list of therapists who aren’t involved with Adam. Sharon corrects herself and says she means involved with Adam’s situation. Adam argues there’s no need for help since he knows everything he needs to know about himself.
At the ranch, Chelsea updates Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) on Victor’s invitation for her to stay the night with Connor. Nikki wants to make sure this is just one night since one can lead to two…or 20. Distance isn’t always a good thing. Nikki would hate to see the end of Chelsea and Adam.
Chelsea thinks Nikki almost sounds gleeful about predicting her relationship’s destruction. Nikki backtracks and knows Chelsea wants what’s best for Connor, but there’s only so much you can do to save a child from the world and himself – as they see with this situation between Victor and Adam.
At Society, Lola Rosales (Sasha Calle) tells Theo Vanderway (Tyler Johnson) this isn’t a good time. Theo’s sorry he put Lola on the spot about Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor). He thinks he should’ve taken Lola at her word and not read any ulterior motives into it.
Lola contends that everything worked out for the best and they’re all moving on. Theo asks if they’re cool, so Lola says they are and wants to get back to work. After Theo dashes off to get a table for himself, Lola sighs and seems frustrated.
In the kitchen, Mariah wants to make sure Lola’s OK after hearing about Kyle and Summer Newman (Hunter King) “shacking up.” Lola’s over all the “Skyle” conversations, so Mariah moves on to the next topic: Sharon and Rey.
Mariah tells Lola that Sharon is determined to save Adam. Lola wonders what means for Rey, so Mariah admits she doesn’t think there are any romantic motives.
Even so, Mariah’s worried. “That guy is a magnet for disaster,” Mariah says about Adam. Lola thinks back on how her mom tried to change her dad. It robbed Celeste Rosales (Eva LaRue) of years of her life and it was just wishful thinking. Mariah really hopes that scenario won’t play out between Sharon and Adam.
Talk turns to Theo, so Lola confesses he may have been more right about something than she wanted to admit. Later, Lola joins Theo to see how his meal was. Theo admits it was awesome…and not what he ordered.
Lola suggests it was “sorry calamari with an apology aioli sauce.” She confesses she overreacted earlier because Theo wasn’t entirely wrong.
Lola’s never had an ex-husband or an almost ex-husband, so she does have some issues she’s working through. Theo has a thick skin and is there for Lola if she needs to vent.
At Crimson Lights, Summer and Kyle talk about their plan of attack. It soon becomes clear they’re talking about an upcoming meeting with Summer’s parents.
In Phyllis Summers’ (Michelle Stafford) suite, Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) gets frisky and they agree they “Skyle” can wait. Afterward, Nick thinks Kyle knows he’s lucky to have what he has. Now that Kyle’s back with Summer, Nick doesn’t feel like Kyle will risk pushing things too hard, too fast.
When Phyllis and Nick get off the elevator, it’s evident to Summer what they’ve been up to. Kyle jumps in and suggests it’s no problem. Summer’s acting too casual as they prepare to order drinks.
Phyllis just wants Summer and Kyle to spill it already. It dawns on Phyllis that Summer might be engaged, but then Nick wonders if she might be pregnant. A horrified Phyllis worries it might be both!
Summer wants Nick and Phyllis to slow their roll. There’s no ring on Summer’s finger or baby on the way. Phyllis and Nick are relieved to learn Summer and Kyle are just moving in together. Since this news isn’t as intense as Phyllis thought, she suggests it was “well-played.”
Nick does have concerns since Kyle’s divorce is still in the works. Kyle promises it’s just paperwork, but Nick seems to have his doubts and wants to table this discussion until the divorce is final.
After Nick excuses himself, Summer follows him over to the bar. Nick admits Summer makes her own choices, which she’s glad to hear – because there’s more.
Nick realizes Summer wants to live in the house he was originally going to give them after their wedding. Summer knows Nick just started building it and intends to sell it, but she thinks her dad can sell it to them instead of strangers.
Nick isn’t as enthusiastic about this reconciliation, but Summer offers reassurance. She agrees it’s important to get this divorce finalized first.
Meanwhile, Phyllis suggests she’s pleased Summer will be living with Kyle so Summer can keep track of him – just in case Kyle’s tempted to visit his ex. Kyle promises that won’t happen since Summer is the only woman he wants.
Phyllis warns that if Kyle screws her daughter over again, she’ll create a new cocktail called the Kyle Abbott. “And it’ll be the weakest drink we have,” Phyllis quips.
After Nick and Summer reconvene with Phyllis and Kyle, Nick decides “Skyle” can have the house once it’s finished. Back at the cottage, Mariah calls out for Sharon and looks around to find no sign of her mom. “She didn’t!” Mariah hisses. “Did she?”
Over with Victor, he returns home and assures Chelsea that they can’t give up on Adam. Meanwhile, Sharon’s trying to convince Adam to stay. She doesn’t believe there’s a toxic darkness in Adam or that he hurts everyone he touches.
Adam argues that he’s hurt Sharon over and over. “We’ve hurt each other,” Sharon says. “Does that make me dark and toxic, too?” Adam thinks Sharon’s good, but so is he according to Sharon. Furthermore, helping Adam would give Sharon the extra motivation she needs to win her own battle.
Sharon begs for this one last chance on Tuesday’s Young and the Restless episode, but Adam says he doesn’t deserve saving. “Let me prove that you do,” Sharon replies. In the end, Adam finally agrees to stay.
