TLC 90 Day Fiance: Before The 90 Days spoilers tease that Lisa Hamme has a big decision to make about her upcoming marriage to Usman Umar. As viewers know, Usman and Lisa recently got Usman’s mom’s blessing to get married, which was a huge relief to the couple. Without “mommy’s” blessing, there wasn’t going to be a wedding.
Well, now the wedding is on, and Usman has even bought a ring for Lisa. He seems serious about going ahead with the wedding plans, although he does have some concerns. As he told his brother Muhammed Umar, he is concerned about Lisa’s level of patience and her anger/control issues. Usman feels that he’s always apologizing to Lisa, and that’s not the way things are in his culture.
Well, Muhammed counseled Usman to be patient with Lisa and to try to understand exactly what it was that Lisa was angry about on those occasions when she lashes out. That’s all well and good, but there’s another issue here, and it’s a cultural difference.
And that cultural difference came out big time when Usman decided to sit Lisa down and talk with her about her anger and controlling ways.
When Usman talked with Lisa, he didn’t seem to take Muhammed’s advice. Rather, he proceeded to tell Lisa that in his culture, the man gives the orders in the marriage, and not the woman.
Clearly, Usman came across to Lisa like he was telling her that she needed to obey him in the marriage, and she responded angrily that she wasn’t a dog!
Of course, Lisa really doesn’t have much room to talk here, since she does speak pretty harshly to Usman on a regular basis. At any rate, Lisa didn’t appreciate the whole sit-down, and she even told Usman that maybe they shouldn’t get married. It all escalated pretty quickly, and Lisa ended up flipping off Usman and walking away!
It wasn’t a good scene at all, especially since it happened out in the open, for others to see. Culturally, women just don’t behave that way toward men in Nigeria, and so for Lisa to swear at Usman and give him the bird is a big deal…both from a reality TV standpoint and a cultural standpoint.
We’ll see how Usman and Lisa work out this issue between them, but if there’s one thing that’s pretty apparent, it’s that people don’t change their entire personalities overnight, and Lisa tends to be a confrontational person. Will Usman and Lisa’s marriage ever work, considering their personalities and their cultural differences?
