General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that Sean Blakemore has confirmed he’s OUT as Shawn Butler. Blakemore shared the truth behind his GH exit and thanked his fans on Twitter, so let’s talk about this abrupt departure and what prompted it.
The February 25 episode brought some shockers since Shawn wants to expand The Invader.
Shawn filled Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) in on a new deal that came with a big catch and dropped the bomb about moving to San Francisco.
Shawn also reflected on his bond with Alexis and hinted that he might stick around if she gave him a reason to.
Although Alexis cares deeply for Shawn and will always want him in her life, she wasn’t interested in a romantic reunion.
Alexis kept Shawn planted firmly in the friend zone – and that means there’s nothing standing in the way of his San Francisco move.
Shawn will miss TJ Ashford (Tajh Bellow), but he’ll bid him farewell for now on the February 28 episode and put The Invader first for a while.
However, Shawn did tell Alexis that he hoped to split his time between Port Charles and San Francisco eventually.
There could be some visits as well, but this is the show’s way of writing Blakemore out so he can focus on other projects.
Many viewers feared that perhaps Blakemore had been fired, but the actor himself confirmed it was his choice to leave.

“Lol…I appreciate you and ALL my wonderful supporters!” Blakemore tweeted in response to a fan. “I was absolutely NOT let go.
It was my decision to exit the show because of other obligations. The GH family has been great to me! Who knows whats to come in the near future”
Of course, this is a tough blow for many Shawn fans, especially since the writers failed to do much with the character upon his return.
There was the potential for a new romance and so much more, but Shawn’s getting a hasty exit instead.
Fortunately, it sounds like Blakemore has some other exciting things in the works, so we wish him luck in any new roles that land in his path!
