The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that Dominic Newman-Abbott-Chancellor’s (Rainn and River Ware) health crisis could change everything and become Abby Newman-Abbott-Chancellor (Melissa Ordway), Chance Chancellor’s (Conner Floyd) and Devon Hamilton’s (Bryton James) path to peace.
For starters, almost every soap baby has a health crisis at some point.
It’s practically a rite of passage anyway, but it’d be particularly useful for the story in this case. Let’s consider some problems the characters are having and how they might solve them.
Chance has been having a hard time since he came back from his mission, especially when it comes to bonding with Dominic.
Although Chance loves Dom, he feels like he has no idea what he’s doing. Chance doesn’t think he’s connecting with Dominic like he should be or giving his son what he needs.
Meanwhile, Abby has become defensive over Devon’s request for shared custody. She feels like Devon’s implying they’re bad parents, so her guard has gone way up.
Abby no doubt suspects Devon’s ease in handling Dominic is hindering Chance’s ability to connect with the baby.
We’ve also got Devon, who’s going to push back when Abby refuses to change their initial agreement.
If Devon was truly putting Dominic first, he wouldn’t be stressing out the kid’s parents and threatening a legal battle.
Devon will go overboard on this and could turn it into a pretty fierce fight.
Now consider the possibility that Dominic will suddenly develop some serious medical issue.
Perhaps Chance will be the one to see the warning signs and sense that something’s wrong.
That’d fix the problem of Chance connecting with Dom and would make him feel like he’s got a paternal instinct after all.
If Devon has to make some life-saving donation based on his biological connection to Dominic, Abby will surely soften her stance.
In that case, Abby would be so grateful that nothing else would really matter anymore.
Likewise, Devon might see the genuine concern and love pouring out of Dominics’s parents throughout all this.
Devon could decide he’s been selfish in trying to barge in on Chance and Abby’s parental territory.
Devon, Abby and Chance might come to realize they have to find a way to come together for Dominic’s sake.
A health crisis for Dominic is the easiest story strategy here – and as a bonus, it would create some fantastic drama!
