The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Killing Rey Off Was a Mistake – Y&R Threw Away Chelsea & Sharon Drama for Pointless Exit

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that killing Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) off was a mistake since Y&R threw away Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) and Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) drama for a death that fell flat.

The show had put all the pieces in place for a fantastic story.

Chelsea was growing closer to Rey, who had miraculously forgiven her mistakes and had grown to appreciate her unpredictable side.

Sharon was strengthening her bond with Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) – leaving Rey to feel like he was on the outside of the “Shick” family.

Rey was also longing to be a father and filling that void through being a role model to Connor Newman (Judah Mackey).

After Chelsea had that steamy dream about Rey, it really seemed to seal the deal on where the writers were going.

As a bonus, Rey and Chelsea actually had sizzling chemistry!

They worked well together, so it would’ve been fun to watch Chelsea and Rey struggle with growing temptation.

Of course, it also would’ve been fun to see Sharon and Chelsea fighting over Rey.

Y&R fans got a little taste of that when Sharon called Chelsea out for wanting to spend time with Rey on the Chicago trip – not just for Connor, but for herself.

Those scenes were terrific and could’ve marked the beginning of an excellent cheating storyline.

Rey and Chelsea’s forbidden affair would’ve provided months of dramatic twists and turns, especially since Sharon and Nick seemed like they might do some cheating of their own.

Sadly, the show decided to ditch all that and hastily get rid of Rey in a fatal car crash, which just feels like such a waste!

Even if they wanted to get rid of Rey, the least they could do was give Jordi Vilasuso a proper sendoff.

Instead, Rey’s death was mostly all about Ashland Locke (Robert Newman) and Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle).

Viewers didn’t get a glimpse of Rey injured or dying in his car – and now Celeste Rosales (Eva LaRue) wants Rey’s funeral to take place offscreen in Miami.

Sharon Case gave an incredible performance when Rey’s death was confirmed to Sharon on April 21, and Melissa Claire Egan did a great job reacting in the April 22 episode, too.

However, the show could’ve gotten far more dramatic mileage out of a Rey and Chelsea pairing – one that blew up his marriage and drove Sharon even further into Nick’s arms.

It might be different if Rey’s death felt more powerful, but the whole exit strategy feels like it’s fizzling instead.
