Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey) from Grey’s Anatomy injured her foot, so she had to wear a big black boot. Did she hurt herself doing some cool stunts on the set? Read on to find out what happened.
The Injured Foot Wasn’t Cool?
People reported that on Saturday this weekend, Ellen arrived at the “Tribeca Festival Storytellers event in New York City.” There, she sat down with Katie Couric, who asked her what she did to hurt herself. Well, Ellen has a great sense of humor, so she spread her tale out a little bit.
If you hope it happened when she was doing something cool, it wasn’t like that at all. In the interview that was shared on X, she said, “I wish it was, like, a cool, sexy or exciting story, like I was doing some cool stunts or something.”
Next, the real-life Meredith Grey explained, “I just, you know, was half asleep and jumped out of bed too quick and landed on my foot the wrong way. Somewhat clumsy of me.”
More Than Once
Pompeo had injured her foot and ended up wearing a boot an incredible three times. One of those times came way back in the second season of the show. Just worn out and feeling tired, she didn’t realize it was the weekend when her alarm went off. Freaking out, thinking she would be late for work, she landed badly. This time it was the same sort of injury.
Laughing about it, Ellen Pompeo explained to Katie Couric, “…this is almost like my party trick…I literally have done this three times, not the same way I’ve done it. This is my second time doing that way, being asleep and jumping out too fast.”
The Irony Of Repeated Events
It seems a bit ironic that Ellen repeatedly injured her foot. After all, she struggles with repetitive things. Three months ago, she spoke about the pros and cons of acting. In her interview that was shared on Reddit, the award-winning star said that the best part was “financial security,” and admitted that she did okay on that front.
The downside, she continued, was the fact that “the repetitive nature of doing the same thing over and over” wasn’t the best thing ever. In fact, she described it as the “hardest”part of her career.
Getting Real
At the time, fans of the ABC show chatted about it in the comments, and they appreciated that the actress kept things real. She could have made up an elaborate story about her injured foot, but she didn’t. When she talked about earning money, she was real as well.
One impressed fan wrote, “I honestly liked that response. It is how many of us would probably feel in that position. Or at least, I feel like that in a not-rich-and-famous way at times (my job can be boring, but it pays my bills).”
Another fan agreed, saying, in part, “It’s an honest answer, and it makes sense. Some actors really enjoy the steady, day-in/day-out work of a TV show… It completely makes sense that playing the same person for 20 years would get monotonous for an actor, even though the money is good.”
