In tonight’s NCIS: Sydney episode, tonight was a two parter because the work was never done with this team. The drug syndicate known as the Collective reared its ugly head back up again. It came about after an FBI Agent in Fiji was murdered. Special Agent Byrne was killed by a stab in the back.
The knife looked familiar to Mackey when she later saw the footage. She recognized it from the Afghanistan footage of the Collective killing the locals. She needed a better photo of the murder weapon and so Mackey and JD visited the FBI’s headquarters in Sydney.
They ran into Special Agent Park. Park was leading the investigation. She claimed that she went through Quantico with Byrne and that she wanted to find his killer more than anyone.
Only she kept a few things back. She failed to mention going to DeShawn to get dirt on Mackey. She also didn’t reveal her hand until Mackey showed hers. It was also after they began playing nice with each other because the Madam Ambassador was in the room. Mackey said she believed she could prove that Lee Meyers was involved in Byrne’s death.
She got a look at the knife. She confirmed it was the same one used in the commission of a war crime. Meyers was set to return to the United States where he’d face a secret court because of National Security.
He was former CIA after all. By accusing him of a war crime, Mackey takes it out of the Americans’ hands. It would then be a real court and in the Hague for his war crimes. Park then told her what they found. The man wielding the knife alongside Meyers in the footage had just snuck into Australia.
He left his fingerprints behind on the knife in Byrne’s back. He was picked up at the airport and killed his way out. He took down two of Sydney’s officers. He stole a car from the parking lot. He could be anywhere. Or so they thought. Mackey and JD visited Meyers in prison.
They told him about the war crimes angle hoping to scare him, but you can’t outspook a spook. He could tell that Mackey planted a device on him so he did what she expected. He made a call to his friend in the country. He technically called his lawyer who then connected the call to the mystery man.
Meyers gave a coded message that his friend understood completely. The team didn’t get what it meant. Not until it almost killed them. They thought his friend had hooked up with Kuai Tsun. Tsun was the largest drug dealer in Australia. NCIS assumed he must be a friend of Meyers.
Maybe he helped with the drugs production. The team didn’t know so they tracked down Tsun to ask. They walked right into a trap. It’s a good thing Trigger was with them because he literally saved them from a grenade going off.
Tsun never worked with Meyers. He actually revealed all of his crimes to authorities because he was that scared of Meyers. The two were competitors. Meyers wanted him gone anyway he could and he used that phone call from earlier to help his friend set it up.
It turns out there have been a lot of drug busts lately. The War On Drugs was finally working and it seemed a little suspicious to Trigger. He said the good guys were either getting smarter or the bad guys were getting dumber. The American Director of National Drug Policy also happened to be in town.
His name is John Callaghan. He didn’t give anyone the ick when they met him. Then again they were all focused on his Chief of Staff, Ryan. Ryan was Mackey’s ex. He was also the father of her only child. The same child that was turning eighteen on tonight’s episode so Mackey was trying to find the right gift.
She thought that a subscription to Forbes Financial would help set him up for adulthood. Her entire team told her that was a bad idea. Mackey was looking for last minute gifts online and Trey hanging out with his dad in her backyard was making her antsy.
It was making her team curious. Not even DeShawn knew who Trey’s dad was before now. Evie and Bluebird both thought Ryan was super hot. It also gave Blue hope because she knew Mackey was a goth in high school when she got pregnant. Anything seemed possible now.
Mackey was able to connect Ryan and she was feeling antsy because she didn’t realize how close Ryan was to Trey. It wasn’t until she saw them together that she realized that Trey has been keeping things from her. He also agreed to go to dinner with his dad and the Director on his birthday because he thought his mom would too busy.
