The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that when the CBS soap returns to production, there’ll be major changes in store. Thanks to the safety protocols that’ll be required on set, actors won’t be in close contact when they film. That’s naturally going to affect how couples interact – especially Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) and Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow).
There are other couples on canvas that have been tackling challenges together – like Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) supporting Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) through her cancer.
Likewise, Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) backed Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) up as he blackmailed his way to the Newman CEO seat. Chelsea can continue to support Adam as he deals with the pain of the past.
Even Summer Newman (Hunter King) and Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) work together! So many other couples on The Young and the Restless have stories or at least some way to occupy their time.
Unfortunately, Nick and Phyllis’ romance is just that – a romance and nothing more. They don’t have a real story; it’s just about how many make-out sessions and hookups they can squeeze in.
Obviously, that’s not going to work under these strict safety protocols. Kissing and lovemaking scenes will be out for a while, so what will Phyllis and Nick do? Without sleeping together, what do they really have? Let’s consider what The Young and the Restless writers’ plans might be for “Phick.”
It’s possible Y&R will try to start some kind of story for Nick and Phyllis – just like the other couples we mentioned. However, it’s tough to imagine what that story might be at the moment.
There’s also the matter of Nick and Phyllis going from sleeping together constantly to not at all. Y&R could imply love scenes here and there, but it’ll be jarring to see “Phick” so toned down.
Would The Young and the Restless be better off just tearing Phyllis and Nick apart? That’d be one way to explain why Phyllis and Nick suddenly don’t want to be close. Nick could get fed up with Phyllis’ latest scheme and whatever trouble it causes for Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway). It’d be easy for Nick to side with his sister if Phyllis pushes too far.
Of course, the best strategy might be for Phyllis to put her walls back up. The Young and the Restless fans will recall how Phyllis pumped the brakes, even after deciding she should be with Nick. Phyllis is clearly scared of getting hurt, so why not have her pump the brakes once again?
Perhaps Phyllis could tell Nick she doesn’t want to risk ruining their bond after all. Phyllis could push for friendship and leave Nick stuck pining for her. Nick might accept Phyllis’ decision, but he’d still face a broken heart.
Regardless, Nick and Phyllis’ relationship should look quite different once the show’s back with new episodes!
