People keep trying to fan cast A-list stars for the role of Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey Movie Cast, which is never going to work. First of all, while Universal may have high hopes for the film and its box office potential, it’s never going to be Oscar level material. Secondly, whoever is cast in these films is going to be having a lot of [simulated] sex, and actors won’t do that unless they’re working on Oscar caliber material. It’s this whole preconception of thinking that if they’re going to go naked, they better get awards for the role.
And if we’re being completely honest, the most Fifty Shades of Grey can hope for is that it’s a decent film. There’s only so much you can do without changing the source material completely, right? In fact, the only reason I have faith in this project to be watchable is because of the director, Sam Taylor-Johnson. She’s an edgy choice for directing this film, and her last two efforts were beautiful. But while she can make everything look and sound better, the film is still based on books that started out as Twilight fan fiction.
Anyway, that brings me to the casting for Fifty Shades of Grey. Garrett Hedlund has already turned down the lead role in the film, and although he cites the fact that he doesn’t want to be tied down for three films, sources have said he simply didn’t want to do the movie. The whole three movies thing was just an excuse. So that leaves us B-list actors and unknowns. The studio won’t accept C-list actors or CW actors, which is why poor Ian Somerhalder was left out. But that brings me to the perfect choice: William Moseley. Good looking, not too well known, can act decently enough, and still enough of a name to be like ‘Oh, yeah, that guy.’
