Judging by Nina Dobrev’s twitter bikini stunt, life is a beach. Obviously, spending some alone time and celebrating life with friends like Julianne Hough has given her a new found sense of self. Either that, or Ian Somerhalder is back smashing her perfect cakes to smithereens. Dobrev knows that the best revenge is looking great. She did a one-handed cartwheel, in an itty bitty bikini, on a beautiful ocean front (reminding you of your failed New Year’s resolution to lose weight). She even managed to keep her sunglasses on! As in most Showmances, Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder’s relationship status fluctuates more than Oprah Winfrey’s weight.

Now that Ian Somerhalder’s Fifty Shades of Grey dreams are crushed, he seems to be open to reconnecting with his on again, off again, on screen, off screen, long time girlfriend, and co-star. As if being neglected by everyone outside of the CW network isn’t enough, television producers are likely encouraging the duo to remain close friends in an effort to make their characters more believable. Ian Somerhalder wants desperately to shake Nina Dobrev, and engulf himself in furthering his acting career. Vampire Diaries fans refuse to allow Nina and Ian to be themselves, and insist that they remain Katherine Pierce and Damon Salvatore when the cameras stop rolling.

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are still cemented in their Twilight love affair, although they called it quits way back when the movie rapped. Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev surely have a tremendous amount of love and respect for each other, but it’s all about business. They’re temporarily back on for now – until Ian’s agent convinces him that he has a shot at another blockbuster movie role. Then it’s back to the single ladies pit of doom for Nina.

“>Don’t worry TVD fans. As long as this show continues to air, Ian and Nina will bond through their characters’ roles. The minute the fan response decreases, and this show vanishes (like Desperate Housewives), Ian and Nina Dobrev will realize that executives paid a cheap price to own their private romantic lives. For now, we’ll inject our personal feelings into The Vampire Diaries saga, and pretend we’re Katherine or Damon. Ian said it best tweeting, “Perhaps the secret of living well is not in having all the answers but in pursuing unanswerable questions in good company.”
