Kathy Griffin Replaces Joan Rivers: Gets Fashion Police Gig

Though many were vying to be the replacement for Joan Rivers as host of “Fashion Police,” the coveted role was given to Kathy Griffin, says TMZ, claiming the decision is a done deal.  Despite reports that Griffin had been gunning to replace Joan Rivers while she was still in the hospital, Kathy furiously disputed those claims and later shared with Access Hollywood that while a deal was offered to her to take over for Joan, she wasn’t sure if it was the right time for her. Joan’s daughter Melissa Rivers had her sights set on Griffin for some time and knew that the show had to go on, as that is what her mom would have wanted.

Griffin will join Melissa Rivers, Kelly Osbourne, and Guiliana Rancic on the show. Multiple sources are saying that the show will no longer keep the same weekly format, but that it will air during awards shows and other special events. Us Weekly spoke with a source close to the show who shared, “Joan has always given her blessing to Kathy,” adding that Joan “wanted Kathy to be her successor. They talked about it many times. They have such a similar sense of humor and were the best of friends. Joan would have loved seeing Kathy on Fashion Police and she would have definitely approved.”

While Kathy may have been debating whether or not to replace Joan’s role on the show, she has since made the decision to accept the offer.
