Macaulay Culkin NOT Dead: Facebook, Twitter Death Hoax Rumors of Drug-Plagued Former Child Star False

Another day, another celebrity death hoax. Hot on the heels of several recent reports of celebrity deaths that were determined to be hoaxes, comes the reported death of druggie Macaulay Culkin on Facebo0k and Twitter, rumors were that Macaulay Culkin was dead. Those who start the rumors of the passing of certain celebs sure know how to pick their victims. It is almost always a celebrity with a dark and drug-fueled life, whose death would not be surprising.

So, when reports of Macaulay Culkin’s death seemed to originate on a site called MSNBC.website.com (not affiliated with the legitimate MSNBC), it didn’t take long for them to spread like wildfire. Culkin has seemed and looked close to death many times, most recently after his breakup with longtime love Mila Kunis. His demise seemed to grow rapidly after they split, so the story was picked up and believed by many to be true as it was very detailed and included the name of a detective who was reportedly investigating the actor’s death. This is the third hoax this year that claimed Culkin had died.

By the time it was determined to be a hoax by other sites the story had been shared more than 700,000 times on Facebook. The site who started the rumor was likely hoping to gain some credibility by using the name MSNBC in their URL, though there is no affiliation between the site and the real MSNBC news source.

So, fans of Culkin can rest easy, he isn’t dead, but fans of any celebrity drug addict who are in a dark place better beware as you may find your favorite celebrity on the hoax list next, or the real death list!
