New General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that we’ll see a recast of Morgan Corinthos (Bryan Craig) sooner rather than later because his return is critical to redeem a pivotal legacy character – Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard).
Consider this. Everyone is turning on Sonny except for Jason Morgan (Billy Miller) and Alexis Davis (Nancy Grahn). Those two place the blame for Morgan’s death on Julian and are trying not to judge Sonny too harshly.
But the rest of Sonny’s kids and his wife seem to be done with him and his stubborn insistence on sticking to his mob lifestyle. Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) brings evidence to Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) that seems to confirm Morgan’s death.
The PCPD found the jade necklace that Carly gave Morgan in the wreckage of the car in the river. There was also talk of some “remains” when the explosion first happened but Carly confirmed there is no body to be buried and the farewell service will be a memorial rather than a funeral and burial.
Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) is horrified, Dante is pursuing Sonny for possible arrest, and Michael Quartermaine (Chad Duell) will soon unload on Sonny in a stunning fit of rage over his brother’s death. It does NOT look good for Sonny.
With Sonny’s always fragile mental state, the near total abandonment by those he loves most will cripple him emotionally. We can expect Sonny to struggle, make bad choices, and spiral down to rock bottom.
There’s no hope in sight because no one will be in any frame of mind to forgive him. Sonny can’t go on like that and as a pivotal legacy character, GH can’t go on with Sonny bottoming out. Just when Sonny feels like he can’t take anymore and things get truly dire, we can expect the recast.
GH showrunners will let this drama play out with everyone hating Sonny for a couple of months but around Christmas or New Year, in a symbolic manner, we can look for the prodigal son to return. This will give enough time for fans to let their memories of Bryan Craig fade.
Plus, with Sonny at rock bottom, the return of Morgan will bring a welcome relief to all the darkness that this storyline is dredging up. There’s no word yet on who the recast will be, but this should not be a lingering matter like the two-year absence of Jason Morgan before the Billy Miller recast.
Sitting down to watch GH 😞. Thank you for all the ❤️ #GHBaby

GH can simply announce the replacement or they can go the plastic surgery to explain the recast like they’ve done before since Morgan was the victim of an explosion. Plastic surgery is fine but GH fans would appreciate if they left off the amnesia. That’s been done to death on GH.
There is still some talk about Joey Luthman (young Luke Spencer on the 52nd-anniversary show) stepping in to take on the role of Morgan, but GH fans haven’t seemed thrilled with that suggestion, so perhaps GH casting will find someone more like Morgan.
In fact, we might see Morgan even sooner than year end. In late September, ABC put out a casting call for a role on GH of a male 20-25, Caucasian, that is “brooding and intense” and “complicated and troubled.” The notice says the guy is “a soulful young man trying to figure things out.”
That sounds just like Morgan. Stay tuned for more GH news on this important recast. Sonny’s storyline demands the return of his youngest son – and it’s coming soon!
