Joe Alaskey is dead. The Bugs Bunny voice actor has died at the age of 63. Alaskey was the voice of such cartoon characters as Tweety Bird, Sylvester The Cat, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck.
The news of Joe’s passing was announced by his family on Wednesday, February 3. Alaskey had big shoes to fill in his time as the icon cartoon voices. Hired by Warner Bros. in the 1980s, Joe replaced the legendary Mel Blanc following his death in 1989.
Joe took over Blanc’s character voices from 1990 until 1995. Alaskey was awarded an Emmy as the voice of Daffy Duck on the Cartoon Network’s “Duck Dodgers.”
Alaskey’s other work included voice-overs for Martin the Martian, “Tiny Toon Adventures” Plucky Duck as well as the voice behind Grandpa Lou Pickles on the Nickelodeon cartoon “Rugrats” and its spin-off series “All Grown Up!” In 2014 Joe began narrating the Investigation Discovery documentary series “Murder Comes to Town.”
Other credits on Joe Alaskey’s resume include the original announcer on the game show “Couch Potatoes” which was hosted by Marc Summers. Joe’s voice was showcased in the video games “SpongeBob SquarePants: Lights, Camera, Action, Pants!” and SpongeBob Square Pants: Creature from the Krusty Krab.”
Cartoon fans may also remember Alaskey as the voice of Stinkie in the “Casper” television series, as well as in the 1996 animated spin-off “The Spooktacular New Adventures of Casper.”
There are many more television shows and cartoons to which Alaskey contributed. He will be remembered as the voice of Thomas Timberwolf from the internet series “Timberwolf” as well as the occasional guest voice-over announcer for the Disney Channel’s “Toon Disney.”
Some of Joe’s last work included Droopy on “Tom and Jerry and as Green Loontern in “Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham.” Older fans may remember Alaskey as one of the panelists on “Hollywood Squares” hosted by John Davidson.
At this time no cause of death has been announced by Joe’s family.
