“The Young and the Restless” (Y&R) spoilers tease that a casting shake-up could be in the works. It looks like CBS is looking to expand the cast again, only, this time, the casting call brings anxiety as the fan prepare to (possibly) say goodbye to a fan favorite.
CDL exclusively learned that CBS recently ordered a screen test with Melissa Claire Egan and Aiden Turner, to test their chemistry on camera. Aiden Turner is no stranger to acting and has movies, TV shows, and soap opera (AMC) on his resume. He would be a great asset to the show.
However, his screen test brings up more questions than answers. Will Aiden play a new character, or could he be Justin Hartley’s replacement to step into the role of Adam Newman?
Justin Hartley has played Adam Newman since 2014 and has made the role his own, making Adam much more likable and softer than in previous years. His new show, “This Is Us”, looks like it will be a major hit prime time show, and it will prove tough for Hartley to give 100% to both shows. So, where does that leave Adam?
“The Young and the Restless” will not leave anything to chance, and supposedly has taken steps to make sure Adam stays in Genoa City, even if Justin Hartley chooses to exit the role. There is the small possibility that Turner could be a new character that may wreak havoc on Adam and Chelsea’s relationship, but not likely.
The “Y&R” fans aren’t very accepting of new characters, so it seems much more plausible that Aiden would be Justin’s backup replacement.
Usually, where there is smoke, there is fire. Six months ago, Jason Thompson was seen doing a screen test with Amelia Heinle (Victoria Newman) and several weeks later we learned that Burgess Jenkins was exiting the role of Billy, and Jason would step in. It won’t be a huge shocker if the same happens with Aiden and Justin.
Justin Hartley is a central part of the soap opera—he cannot do both shows full time. There isn’t enough time in the day when you consider that he works with “The Young and the Restless” four days a week, 30 plus weeks a year. It leaves very little time for any other projects.
The character of Adam Newman isn’t one that can pop in from time to time like Colin (Tristan Rogers) and Jill (Jess Walton) Atkinson.
