As the season finale of Game of Thrones Season 7 approaches, HBO has finally revealed the title of episode as ‘The Dragon and the Wolf’, giving credence to the spoiler-filled claims that Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) will finally hook up after a season filled with longing glances at each other.
Yes, it’s technically incest, but as we know, neither Jon nor Dany know they’re related. So we’re telling ourselves that it doesn’t really count, right? However, while we can say with some confidence that Jon and Dany will probably get together in some fashion (whether it’s going all the way or just making out a little), we don’t know whether this comes before or after Jon finds out that he’s actually Dany’s nephew – if he finds out at all.
The show’s audience found out at the end of Season 6, via Bran’s (Isaac Wright) all-seeing flashbacks. However, it is a bit strange that with all the ravens that Bran seems to be sending, he can’t take a moment to write, ‘Hey bro, glad you’re alive, the white walkers are at Eastwatch, and oh also, your dad is Rhaegar Targaryen and your mom is Lyanna Stark. K bye.’
Even with that little icky tidbit floating underneath the surface in every one of Jon Snow’s interactions with the Khaleesi, the show has been working hard to convince us that Jon and Dany are SUPER ATTRACTED TO EACH OTHER, OK?! What, are the endless moments of steamy eye contact and tender hand holding not enough? How about when Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) straight up spelled it out for us last season, followed by Dany risking her life and her dragons’ lives (and even sacrificing one of her dragon babies, R.I.P. Viserion) to save Jon’s life, which was then followed by the most epic case of almost-sex this show has ever had.
At this point, the writers are literally doing everything in their power to set up ‘Jonerys’, as the Jon Snow/Daenerys Targaryen hook up ship has come to be known among Game of Thrones fans. The episode title confirms what we’ve already seen coming, and it would be a huge shocker if the two didn’t hook up.
