Taylor Swift may attempt to rule her squad with an iron fist – or in her case, bribes of vacations, photo-ops, and publicity – but some members have a mind of their own. Ed Sheeran, one of her closest and most loyal friends, has seemingly betrayed her no-contact-with-Katy-Perry rule, leading to fractures in her squad.
A source tells OK!, “Taylor and Ed go way back, which is why she was furious when she saw him cuddling up to her sworn enemy Katy Perry recently.” Oh, and it’s not just Katy Perry! Ed’s been hanging out with Taylor’s ex-boyfriends too!
The source adds, “If that’s not bad enough, Taylor found out Ed was also hanging out with her ex [Tom Hiddleston]. Ed’s been so busy promoting his new album that she hasn’t been able to speak to him yet, but when she does, Ed’s definitely going to get a telling off.”
Granted, the source makes it sound hyper dramatic, claiming that Ed has ‘defected’ from Taylor and is now ‘buddying up’ with her enemies. But of course, it IS Taylor Swift – hyper dramatic might be an understatement, given the way she usually reacts to perceived defects in loyalty and friendship.
The report also claims that Karlie Kloss and Cara Delevingne have abandoned her as well, and her squad has become less squad-y than ever. Or maybe it’s just that most of her squad mates have grown up and matured, and realized that passive aggressive social media jabs and in-fighting won’t get them anywhere.
Taylor obviously hasn’t, and is still clinging to the glory days of her squad – you know, when it was synonymous with feminism and girl power and all the positive connotations that have since disappeared. People have now seen right through her facade, and know that it’s all put up for image. The irony is that Katy Perry’s image has never been better, and since their breakup, even Tom Hiddleston has rebounded with a hit movie (Kong: Skull Island).
How does all this make Taylor Swift feel, given that the squad that she worked so hard to cultivate is now falling apart – along with her image? She has yet to make a big public statement, but sources have stated that she’s hard at work with her music and plans to come back in a big way over the next few years.
The only question is, will she let all this drama go, or will she find a way to insert songs about betrayals from friends and ex-boyfriends, again, in her next album?
