The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that Gina Tognoni wrapped filming last week, which means her time on the CBS soap is winding down. Her episodes will still air for around another month, but then Y&R will officially close this chapter of Phyllis. It’s tough to see Tognoni’s version go!
Tognoni brought a unique blend of heart, vulnerability and humor to Phyllis. It’s no secret that Phyllis is a schemer and pretty rotten most of the time. However, Tognoni gave her some good layers and helped us see that Phyllis is complicated. She doesn’t always make the best choices, but she owns who she is and does what she wants. We can respect Phyllis’ confidence and push for self-preservation.
Nevertheless, Tognoni will be passing the torch back to Michelle Stafford, who finished her contract at General Hospital this month. There’s no word on the exact date Stafford starts filming at Y&R again, but there may be a bit of lag time from one Phyllis to the next. It shouldn’t be much though, so Phyllis could just take a little trip to explain the absence.
Phyllis may indeed need a getaway after what’s in store. That brings us to Tognoni’s final episodes. What can we expect from Tognoni’s Phyllis as she hits the road? Phyllis just hacked Jabot’s servers, so she may pay the price for that. Her plan to start an accessories line could crash and burn.
Phyllis is set to make an admission this Friday, so she might come clean to Summer Abbott (Hunter King) about using her password. Then again, Phyllis might just tell Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) what she’s done. She may not be able to resist some gloating after plan pays off.
Whatever the case, Jack will inevitably find out what Phyllis has been up to. He may fight back in a big way, which could send Tognoni’s Phyllis tumbling down again. Life keeps knocking her down, but she may struggle to get back up this time. Phyllis might determine that a vacation is in order, so that’s one option for Tognoni’s departure from The Young and the Restless.
Of course, it’s also possible Tognoni’s Phyllis will dash off somewhere for a positive business meeting. Perhaps the dirty trick she pulled will work in her favor – at least long enough for the Phyllis transition to take place. Either way, Tognoni will hopefully get some powerful scenes before she heads out. Y&R fans will have to find a way to say a difficult goodbye!
