The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that the CBS soap has a golden opportunity. Y&R fans know the show’s been known to snatch up performers from other daytime dramas. Let’s consider a few actors from other soaps that ultimately landed at Y&R – and then we’ll consider one more they could add.
Jason Thompson played Dr. Patrick Drake on General Hospital before joining The Young and the Restless as a Billy Abbott recast. Brytni Sarpy (Elena Dawson) was also highly underutilized on GH, but Y&R saw her potential and took advantage of it.
Sarpy’s been doing as great job as Elena Dawson in Genoa City – and she managed to create a successful pairing with Bryton James (Devon Hamilton) both on screen and off. There’s also Jordi Vilasuso, who once played Dario Hernandez on Days of Our Lives. Now Vilasuso’s playing Rey Rosales on The Young and the Restless, so could his former soap sister be next?
All signs point to Camila Banus exiting the role of Gabi Hernandez DiMera on DOOL. Days fans will see Banus make her onscreen departure in the months ahead, but that doesn’t mean Banus’ soap career has to end.
If The Young and the Restless wants a hot cast addition, they should look no further than Banus! She’d inject some fantastic energy into Y&R and could play a terrific vixen – just like she’s been doing as Gabi on Days. There’d be several ways to use Banus if she wound up in GC.
The Young and the Restless could bring Banus on as a Mia Rosales recast or perhaps a cousin of Rey and Lola Rosales (Sasha Calle). Banus could even be an unrelated character if that’s how Y&R wants to take things, but it’d make more sense to give her a connection in town. That’s a common strategy when soaps are introducing someone new to the audience.
Of course, Banus wouldn’t be new to Days viewers, which is another excellent reason for her to head to Y&R. Between Banus’ talent and the fans she might bring over from DOOL, she could be a ratings booster. Not to mention all the drama Banus’ character could cause!
It’s easy to imagine Banus playing a new rival for Summer Newman (Hunter King), especially if her character’s related to Lola. You can bet she’d view Summer as a homewrecker, so that could start quite a war.
Naturally, it’s possible Days will work out Banus’ contract and lock her in for more DOOL drama soon. It’ll be interesting to see what happens as the rest of the soaps return following the shutdown. However, Banus is still up for grabs at this point, so maybe Y&R should swoop in while they have the chance.
