Remember when Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas were first married, years after becoming totally inseparable? They seemed like the real deal didn’t they? For like a nano-second it seemed like maybe Michael was through with his notorious womanizing and was really in love with his hot new wife. Flash forward 14 years and it appears that all of that love has worn off and what we’re left with is a couple that appears to bring out the worst in each other. Now it’s moved to the separation and divorce stage – only the details remain to be worked out.
When Michael decided to tell the world about HPV causing his throat cancer it was intended to hurt his wife. It was a tactical move to embarrass her and feed her insecurity. What most people don’t know is that Michael and Catherine actually split for awhile last year to see if life is better off apart and apparently he believes that it is because he has met with divorce attorneys.
Catherine has been very honest about her struggle with bipolar disorder and admits that she expects to be hospitalized on and off for the rest of her life, likening it to a mental tune up. Believe it or not, Michael has handled her manic episodes well, it’s her drinking that completely pushed him away. Drinking is a catalyst that often triggers manic episodes and while his wife knows this she hasn’t been able to rein in her heavy boozing.
Why does Catherine drink? Michael’s reputation as a serial cheater and her own insecurity sure hasn’t kept her sober. So he disappears, she drinks until she’s manic and has a full breakdown then Michael returns to temporarily patch up the aftermath with their two kids. A few months later the cycle repeats itself until now. Now Michael is down and has decided that he wants off the merry-go-round.
