When “General Hospital” spoilers and coming and going news confirmed in 2014 that Brandon Barash was returning to Port Charles as mobster Johnny Zacchara, GH fans were thrilled by the news. However, a lot of diehard fans had selected hearing and neglected to acknowledge the fact that the announcement also revealed it was only a multi-week arc and Barash had no intention of returning to the ABC soap full time.
When “General Hospital” spoilers confirmed Johnny Zacchara’s return, we assumed he would appear in a few minor chats with Sonny Corinthos in Pentonville – but we had no idea he would be driving such an important storyline and cross paths with so many Port Charles residents. Now that Johnny Zacchara is a free man, he seems to be creating a ton of drama, especially between Lulu and Dante. As much as we are loving Johnny Zacchara back on the scene, we can’t help but remember that when he returned he said in an interview that it would just be a brief storyline.
So how long is Johnny Zacchara sticking around for? Perhaps TPTB at “General Hospital” managed to convince Brandon to come on full time after all? Now that Johnny Zacchara is no longer in Pentonville – there are a mirage of ways to write the character’s exit. There is always the possibility that Julian’s confession is overturned and Johnny is sent back to prison, or he could skip town so that he doesn’t have to go back to prison. Then there is always the darker possibility – Johnny has rubbed a lot of dangerous people the wrong way, and the character could be killed off now that he doesn’t have his prison goons to protect him.
What do you think, GH fans? Are you enjoying having Brandon Barash back on the soap? Do you think that his storyline is brief, or did he agree to stay on longer than he originally anticipated?
